Sorting can be found under Configuration > Search & collection pages > Sorting.
All sorting related settings can be accessed from here
Sorting settings
Enable sorting so customers can choose how results are ordered.
You can also add a Sorting dropdown label—this will appear next to the sorting dropdown in your store. Leave it blank if you want to display the dropdown without a label.
Sorting can be turned on or off using this checkbox in Configuration > Search & collection pages
💡 Hint: If sorting is disabled, results will always use the default order defined in the Sort based on section.
Sort based on
This setting controls whether collections follow Prefixbox’s default relevance-based sorting or Shopify’s manual sorting.
Based on Prefixbox (default) — Products are sorted by Prefixbox’s relevance algorithm.
Based on Shopify — Products follow the manual order you’ve set in Shopify’s collection editor.
The "Sort based on" option controls the default order when no user sorting is applied
⚠️ Important: Choosing Shopify-based sorting overrides Prefixbox’s optimized ranking for collections. If you’ve manually arranged products in Shopify, this ensures they appear in that exact order.
Sorting options
Manage the sorting choices available to customers.
Add a new sorting option to define the label shoppers will see, the field to sort by (source), and the direction (ascending/descending).
Reorder options by dragging the handle—this order will appear on your storefront.
The first option in the list is used as the default sorting method for both search and collection pages.
Drag handles let you reorder sorting options—first in the list is used by default
Common sorting options include:
Best match (relevance)
Most popular
Price low → high
Price high → low
Product name A–Z / Z–A
Adding, editing & removing sorting options
To create a new sorting option, click the Add sorting option button in the top right corner. You’ll be able to:
Choose the source field (e.g. price, brand, createdAt)
Set the label shown to shoppers in the dropdown
Select the default sorting direction — ascending or descending
To edit or remove an existing sorting option, simply click on any row in the Sorting options table.
💡 Hint: Can’t find the metafield or product option you want to use?
You’ll need to add it first in Field management—only existing fields show up here. Learn more in this field management guide.
The "Add sorting option" setting page
Sorting options can be edited or removed by clicking on them in the sorting options table
Order-based sorting
The order based (also called "best selling") sorting sort option uses your store’s sales history to display products based on popularity. This requires granting Prefixbox additional access rights to your order data.
To enable order based sorting:
Click Enable access when prompted (either in the banner or on the Configuration > General > Relevance settings page).
Approve order data access when the Shopify permissions screen appears.
The enabling order-based sorting setting is under Configuration > General > Relevance settings, but it can also be enabled from the banner
⚠️ Important: Without these permissions, these sorting options won’t display correct results.
