Why can’t I schedule a lesson?

Common reasons you may be unable to book a lesson.

Updated over a month ago

If you can’t schedule a lesson, it’s usually related to availability, lesson balance, or booking rules. This article explains the most common causes and what you can do to resolve them.

The time you want isn’t available

If the time you’re trying to schedule doesn’t appear as selectable in the tutor’s calendar, it means that slot isn’t available.

This can happen if:

  • Another student already booked it.

  • The tutor removed or updated their availability.

  • The lesson is too soon and doesn’t meet the tutor’s minimum notice requirement.

  • The date is too far in advance and outside the tutor’s booking window.

What you can do

  • Refresh the page to see updated availability.

  • Try a nearby time.

  • Message your tutor to ask if they can open a specific slot.

You don’t have available lessons in your balance

You won’t be able to book a lesson if there are no available lessons left in your balance.

To check this:

  • Review your subscription plan to see how many lessons are included per billing cycle.

  • Check how many lessons have already been scheduled in the Upcoming section in My lessons (desktop) or Schedule (app).

  • Look at your recently completed lessons in the Past section to see how many have already been used.

  • One lesson in your balance equals 50 minutes. If your balance shows 0.5, you can only book a 25-minute lesson. Longer sessions require more than one lesson.

If you’ve used all lessons for the current billing cycle, you can:

  • Wait for your next renewal

  • Upgrade your subscription plan, or

  • Top up additional lessons

Once lessons are available again, you’ll be able to schedule normally.

Weekly lesson setup issues

If you’re trying to set up weekly lessons and it doesn’t work, the issue may be related to recurring scheduling.

For example:

  • The tutor may not offer recurring availability at that time.

  • You may not have enough lessons available to support the weekly setup.

If your weekly time slot disappeared, the recurring schedule may have been stopped.

For more details about how recurring scheduling works, see How weekly lessons work.

Trial lesson restrictions

Trial lessons are available for all tutors, but each student can book only one trial per tutor.

You may not see the trial option if:

  • You’ve already taken a trial lesson with that tutor.

  • The tutor doesn’t have any available time slots.

  • The time you’re trying to book doesn’t meet the tutor’s booking rules (such as minimum notice or advance limits).

Time zone or daylight saving time differences

If available times don’t match what you expect, the reason may be related to your time zone settings or a recent daylight saving time (DST) change.

To check your time zone:

  • Go to Settings.

  • Make sure your time zone is correct.

  • Refresh the calendar after updating it.

If you or your tutor live in a country that observes daylight saving time, lesson times may shift by one hour when clocks change.

Your Preply calendar automatically adjusts for daylight saving time. The lesson time shown in your account is always correct.

If a time change creates a conflict with your tutor’s schedule, you’ll receive a notification so you can reschedule if needed.

When to contact Support

Contact Support if:

  • Your balance was deducted but no lesson appears scheduled.

  • The booking appears successful, but the lesson isn’t visible.

  • You see an error message that doesn’t explain the issue.

Include the lesson date, time, and tutor name so we can review it quickly.
