If you’re switching from QuickBooks to AccountEdge, you have two ways to bring over your data: the DIY File Cabinet Method (free) or the Professional Conversion Service (paid).
This article helps you decide which is right for you.
🧰 Use the DIY Method if you:
Feel confident exporting/importing basic lists and using Excel
Want a clean start with organized books
Rarely reference old QuickBooks transactions
Use QuickBooks Pro Desktop or a basic online plan
What you can transfer:
AccountEdge offers extensive importing capability with field level mapping and data validation. You can import:
✅ Customers & vendors
✅ Chart of accounts
✅ Items
✅ Other Lists, like Jobs, Activities, Departments, Currencies, Custom Lists and more.
AccountEdge can import transactions as well. This requires more extensive Excel experience and complete data for successful importing.
We recommend exporting the list from AccountEdge. In AccountEdge, select File>Export Data>Accounts or Cards>Customers/Vendors. Open that text file in Excel, then keep the headers in row one to create a template by eliminating the exported data, copying your QuickBooks data into the spreadsheet, saving it as a text file, then using it to Import back into AccountEdge (File>Import Data).
Time: Several hours
Cost: Free

Want to move payroll data to AccountEdge
Manage multiple client files (CPAs, bookkeepers)
Want expert help for a smoother process
What it transfers:
✅ Everything from DIY, plus:
✅ Transaction history
✅ Payroll data
✅ Bank reconciliations
Time: 1–2 weeks
Cost: $1000+ (depends on the number of years of transaction history, if required).
