Is there funding available to help pay to put in a new well or to buy parts to repair my old one?

Explore how to secure funds through loans and grants to help you fix your well or pay to construct a new one.

Updated over 12 months ago

There may be different types of funding options available to assist with paying for the installation or repair of a well, if you qualify. Financial assistance for private wells may be offered as either a loan or a grant and can come from non-profit organizations or a local, state, or federal government agency. A loan requires repayment, typically with interest, while a grant provides free money without having to pay it back. The availability, amounts, and qualification requirements can vary each year.

We recommend to first watch our "Funding/Financing Options for Private Well Owners" webinar:

After you watch the webinar, search the options on the web β€” including those on the Private Well Class funding webpage β€” and ask your health department, Soil & Water Conservation District, and cooperative extension office about any possible programs they might be aware of.

In the fall of 2023, the Groundwater Foundation started the Water Well Wish, a program designed to help families in need receive clean, affordable water. For more information, check out the Water Well Wish website.
