Understanding Connections

Written by Scott Geyman

What are Connections?

Connections is a feature in Pipeline that links the contacts in your account to crew members in the ProdPro database, based on shared production history.

The Connections icon shows you which productions and crew members your contact has appeared alongside in production credits – and how frequently. This gives you visibility into the professional relationships behind the contacts you track, without having to research each one manually.

Where to find Connections

Connections appear throughout Pipeline.

To activate Connections on the Productions page, just open the table filter menu and select "Filter to Connections" to begin.

Productions page – shows crew connections tied to contacts associated with that production

Production Detail page – shows contact connections specific to crew attached to the production

How connections are built

Connections are derived from production credit data in the ProdPro database. When a contact in your account shares production credits with a crew member – meaning they appear in the same project's crew records – ProdPro surfaces that as a connection.

A few things worth knowing about how the matching works:

It's based on production credits, not assertions. Connections reflect what the production record shows. If two people worked on the same production in overlapping roles, that's a connection.

Frequency reflects relationship depth. A connection that appears across multiple productions carries more weight than a single shared project. The Connections panel surfaces how many times a relationship appears in the record.

Your contact list determines your coverage. Connections are only surfaced for contacts that are in your ProdPro account. The more contacts you've added, the more connection data you'll see across your research.

Reading the Connections panel

Each connection entry shows:

  • Crew member name – links to their full ProdPro crew profile

  • Crew member role – their role on the production

  • Contact name – links to their Contact Detail page

  • Shared production – the production(s) where this connection was active

You can click any crew member's name to open their full profile and explore their broader credit history, other connections, and production activity.

Tips for getting the most out of Connections

Use it before reaching out. Before sending a cold email or making a call, check the Connections panel. If one of your existing contacts has a production history with the person you're trying to reach, that's a potential warm introduction.

Bulk-import your contacts. If you haven't added your full contact list to ProdPro yet, now is a good time. More contacts means more potential connections surfaced.
