Tracking Overtime (Beta)

Mark time entries as overtime, view overtime costs on budgets and deals, and filter reports by overtime.

Once overtime is enabled on a person's time tracking policy and on a budget or deal, that person can mark their time entries as overtime.

📌 This article covers the manually flagged, per-entry overtime. If you're looking for one of these instead:

As overtime is set up as part of time tracking policies, it's available on the Ultimate subscription plan.

Marking a Time Entry as Overtime

There are two ways to mark an entry as overtime. Neither happens on its own: an entry stays regular time until you mark it, so nothing shows up as overtime unless you put it there yourself.

1) While tracking or editing an entry

  • Open the entry's edit view.

  • Check Mark As Overtime.

2) On an already tracked entry

  • Open the three-dot menu next to the entry.

  • Select Mark As Overtime.

The entry now shows an OT badge next to its duration.

📌 Marking an entry as overtime applies to its entire duration: you can't split a single entry between regular and overtime hours. To do that, add two separate entries and mark only one as overtime.

Viewing Overtime on Budgets and Deals

On a budget or deal's Time tab, overtime entries are labeled and costed separately from regular entries.

This table's fields, filters, and grouping are fully configurable. The fields below are the ones where the overtime effect actually shows up:

  • Worked time: hours tracked.

  • Overtime: Yes or No, with an OT badge on overtime entries.

  • Cost multiplier: 1.00 for regular time, or the policy's multiplier (e.g. 1.5) for overtime.

  • Billable time, Blended rate, Labor cost, Recognized revenue, and Recognized profit: cost and revenue figures that shift once overtime's multiplier is applied.

Filtering and Grouping by Overtime in Reports

Time entry data source reports, including the budget or deal Time tab and the Time Entries report in Reports, can be filtered and grouped by the Overtime field.

Use this to see total worked time and total labor cost, each split between regular and overtime hours.

Viewing Your Own Overtime as an Employee

On a person's profile, the Time tab shows an Overtime figure alongside Capacity, Available, Scheduled, and Worked for the selected date range.

This isn't a running overtime balance, it reflects overtime hours logged within whatever date range is selected.

📌 The same tab shows which time tracking policy is assigned to the person. Clicking Edit opens a read-only summary of that policy's tracking limits, overtime multiplier, and overlap rule.

Overtime for Managers

There's currently no dedicated manager view for reviewing or approving overtime. Managers can track it through:

  • The Overtime field in the Time Entries report and other reports under Reports.

  • A Dashboard widget built from a time entries report, for an at-a-glance view.

  • A Pulse, to get an overtime report delivered on a schedule by email, Slack, or Teams.

📌 There's no dedicated overtime approval step. If you need one, combine overtime with time entry submission for approval — the OT badge is visible on submitted entries, so a manager can review and approve or reject overtime the same way they would any other time entry.
