There's nothing as frustrating as tech problems and slow-running apps when sales are on the line. That's why we're always working to improve the performance of the ProLine app and find ways to make it more reliable for our users.
That being said, there are some very real limitations of "heavy" apps like ProLine, especially when using them out in the field. ProLine has a ton of awesome functionality, but the flipside to this is that all that functionality takes quite a bit of "juice" (in the form of both device processing power and strength of service) to run smoothly.
Let's go over the most common reasons your ProLine app may be running sluggishly, as well as some ways to solve or overcome them.
Reasons Why Your ProLine Mobile App Might Be Slow
Possible Reason #1: Poor Service
ProLine requires stable access to the internet (via data or wifi) to function properly. This means it will struggle to load or respond if you are in an area with poor service or damaged cell towers (which can happen after large storms). As a general rule, you will need to have 3 bars and either an LTE or 5G data connection for an optimal experience.
NOTE: The only exception to ProLine's service requirements is incoming calls. Unlike most other VOIP apps, ProLine routes incoming calls through your actual phone voice service, not the internet (data). As long as you have at least one bar of service, you will always receive incoming ProLine calls.
Potential Fixes:
Shut down all other apps running in the background on your phone. All open apps (even if just open in the background) can suck up data bandwidth. Shutting down everything other than ProLine may free up enough of your connection for ProLine to start working smoothly again.
Restart ProLine. Close out the ProLine app entirely, wait a few seconds, then open it again. This will refresh the app and may help things run smoother for a while.
Restart your phone. This will automatically shut down all background apps. It can also refresh your connection to local towers leading to better service.
Move to a new location. Some areas, especially rural neighborhoods, have phone service issues. You may simply need to wait until you can move back to an area with better reception before trying to use ProLine.
Use a hotspot if service is a recurring problem. If you are working for an extended period of time in an area with poor service, you may want to invest in an internet hotspot device. These devices have stronger antennas and a better data connection to towers, so connecting your phone to a hotspot for the internet can increase ProLine's tolerance for poor service.
Possible Reason #2: Low Device Memory
Even the most cutting-edge phones can get sluggish when they're trying to do too much at once. If your phone has too many apps open, or there is an app open in the background that is especially draining (like YouTube or Facebook), this can cause your phone to struggle to load or run ProLine smoothly.
Potential Fixes:
Shut down all other apps running in the background on your phone. All open apps (even if just open in the background) use up available memory. Shutting everything else down frees up memory for ProLine to start working smoothly again.
Restart ProLine. Close out the ProLine app entirely, wait a few seconds, then open it again. This will refresh the app and may lead to it running smoother for a while.
Restart your phone. This will automatically shut down all background apps and clear your phone's memory.
Bring your phone in to get checked. If you've tried all the above fixes, your phone is less than four years old, and you're sure the issue isn't service-related, your phone may be damaged or otherwise broken. Contact your provider and/or the device maker (Apple, Samsung, etc) about potential issues and fixes.
Get a new phone if yours is more than four years old. Phones have been changing fast. If none of the above fixes are working and your phone is over four years old, consider getting a new one.
Possible Reason #3: Outdated App Version
We periodically update ProLine in two different ways. The most common way we update ProLine is internally. This will cause a banner to appear at the top of the app saying that we've just updated the app and to click to refresh. The second way we update ProLine is by submitting a completely new version to the app stores.
If your app is outdated in either of these two ways, it can cause slowness and other buggy behavior in the app.
Potential Fixes:
Restart ProLine. Your ProLine app is supposed to automatically refresh itself when we push an internal update, but this doesn't always happen as expected. Restarting the app can get everything working again by loading the most updated version.
Update ProLine from the app store. Find the ProLine app listing on the app store or play store and check for any pending updates. If you do not see "update" anywhere, then you're already on the most recent version.
General Troubleshooting Steps
If you're not sure which of the above reasons is the cause of your ProLine app's slowness, then you can follow these general troubleshooting steps to try and fix things:
Shut down all other apps running in the background on your phone.
Restart the ProLine app.
Restart your phone.
Move to a new location to find better service.
