2021 Deadlines

The deadline for most of Texas, including Collin, Dallas, Harris, Rockwall, & Tarrant - Does not include Denton

The deadline for most property owners to file a property tax protest is Monday, May 17th, 2021.

The deadline for Denton County

Denton County is mailing notices later this year. The deadline to file a protest in Denton County will be Monday, June 14th, 2021


The normal deadline to file a property tax protest

The deadline to file an appeal in Texas is May 15th, or 30 days after your notice is delivered (whichever comes later). For most homeowner's deadline will be May 15th. If the May 15th deadline falls on a non-business day (i.e. a weekend or a holiday) the deadline is automatically extended to the following business day.

Examples

  1. Your notice was delivered on April 1st. The deadline to file an appeal is May 15th. Why? Because May 15th is the greater of 30 days from April 1st (30 days from April 1st would be May 1st)

  2. Your notice was delivered on May 1st. The deadline to file an appeal is May 31st. Why? Because 30 days from the date of the notice (May 31st) is greater than May 15th.

  3. Your notice was delivered on August 1st. The deadline to file an appeal is August 31st. Because 30 days from the date of the notice (August 31st) is greater than May 15th.
