At Proton, any artist on your label can feature your label's catalog in their DJ mixes on Spotify & Apple Music to help you increase earnings & exposure:
Any artist that has released on your label has access to the beta.
Artists can upload mixes directly to SoundSystem, without help from managers.
In their mixes, artists can feature music from any Proton label they’re signed to.
(If they are not signed to your music label then they can't play your tracks.)
Since we launched Phase 1 of the Beta in October 2018, Proton's mixes on Spotify & Apple Music have generated over 7 million paid plays. On average, each mix boosted a track’s paid plays by over 10% -- and in some cases, much higher.
If your label is distributed by Proton, you have access to Phase 2 of our DJ Mix beta. This is a powerful new way to promote your label and generate additional revenue, without having to do extra work yourself as the label manager!
How does it work?
Every artist on your label already has access to SoundSystem where they sign contracts, view daily performance, and get paid.
SoundSystem has a new “DJ Mix” area where artists can easily upload DJ Mixes themselves for distribution to Spotify and Apple Music.
We have a helpful guide for artists to learn how to make their mixes, which includes a link to each artist's own Track Stack, which helps them see what tracks they can feature in their mixes.
Can I opt out my entire label, or specific tracks?
Yes, no problem! If you want all artists on your label to be BLOCKED from featuring your catalog in their DJ Mixes, let us know.
If you want to block specific tracks from being used in DJ Mixes, simply click the “Do Not Compile” checkbox in the “Details & Settings” of a specific track.
How does the money work in Phase 2: Artist Mixes?
For each song in the DJ Mix, artists & labels earn the same money as an unmixed play from their original release. You don’t earn any less from DJ Mixes.
DJs earn money too, 10% on each track, coming from Proton’s share.
The DJ's 10% is in addition to any earnings the DJ might already have on a track. This means when a DJ plays their own tracks in a mix, they earn 10% more than they normally would. This incentivizes your artists to make mixes and help your label earn more money
Phase 2: Artist mixes is also be open to Label Managers. If you’ve released music yourself on other Proton labels as an artist, this means you can also feature these Proton labels in your mixes too.
