This article explains what you can do as an artist if you feel that a music label is releasing your music without your permission. Unfortunately, this happens from time to time for various reasons. The good news is that you can do something about it!

Contact the Music Label in Question

The first step you should take is to contact the label directly and ask them to remove your music from all platforms. It's best to approach them in a nice way first instead of being threatening. If you don't have their direct contact info, try writing them on SoundCloud, Facebook, or asking an artist on their label to introduce you.

Ask them to provide a contract that you have signed that would allow them to release your music. If the label does not respond, or does not provide a contract, you can take further action outlined below.

Contact the Music Label's Distributor

After trying to speak with the music label, you can also try speaking with the music label's distributor. If you know the music label is distributed by Proton, our crew is here to help and speak with you further: support@protonradio.com, or click the Intercom icon in the bottom right corner.

However, it can often be difficult to find out which distributor a music label works with. Luckily you still have options -- see below!

Submit a Copyright Violation

If you've already tried speaking with the label or distributor without success, then you can try submitting a copyright violation request at Beatport here: http://forms.beatport.com/form/51386983261968

You can also file a copyright violation against them on Spotify here: https://support.spotify.com/us/report-content/

The process of submitting a copyright violation is quite time consuming, so we highly suggest that you try to contact the label before going down this path.
