When releasing a compilation on your music label, you may want to also release a continuously mixed DJ version, too. To do that properly, you need to have 2 separate releases: an unmixed version, plus the special "continuously" mixed version that goes to Spotify & Apple Music.

You might even want these 2 separate releases to come out on the same day! This article explains how to make that possible...

Step 1: Prepare & schedule the UNMIXED version...

Prepare the unmixed version of the compilation just like you would any other release. Make sure that the pre-order date is at least 2 weeks before the release date. When you are ready, ship the release like normal.

Step 2: WAIT until the pre-order date of the unmixed version...

You'll need to WAIT until the pre-order date before Proton's system will allow you to prepare a DJ mix version of this release. Once the pre-order date arrives, you can take the next step.

  • PRO TIP - While you wait, you can work on SLICING the continuous mix into each of the individual tracks, which is a requirement for uploading the mixed version of the release. Learn more about that here.

Step 3: Finally, setup the MIXED version...

Once the pre-order date arrives, you can now prepare the DJ mix inside Proton. Since you set up the pre-order date two weeks in advance, you can schedule the mix to come out on the same date as the unmixed version with plenty of time.

Why do I have to wait until the unmixed version of my release is on pre-order, before I can prepare the DJ mix version?

At Proton, our system to release DJ Mixes on Spotify & Apple Music requires that every track in the mix is at least on pre-order before DJs can feature that track in their mix. This is to project our labels from DJs trying to play tracks on Spotify & Apple Music before the actual release date.
