In June 2022, Meta (Facebook + Instagram) made a change to their music policy.

Key Notes

  • Alert(s) you receive from Facebook/Instagram saying a music video/post has been removed may not be correct: the music video/post should still be online in most areas. See below for a list of countries/territories where it was removed.

  • If you are the artist or label owner of the music being taken down, you can click APPEAL in the notification link to get your video re-added to the non-monetized countries.

  • At the bottom of this article, check the list of countries/territories where Facebook has not launched their music service yet. If you are NOT accessing Facebook/Instagram from these territories, and your video is still offline, then you contact Proton for help if your music is distributed by us.

More Info

If a post or video on Facebook or Instagram features music, then it may get blocked/taken down but ONLY in countries/territories where Meta does not currently support music yet. The post/video should still be available everywhere else.

When a post/video features music, artists, labels, and fans have started receiving notifications that "Their Video/Post Has Been Removed", but this alert is not accurate: the video/post has only been hidden in the countries/territories where Meta does not support music yet.

For a list of the non-monetized countries/territories where Meta does not support music, see below.

What about the appeal button in the alert I received?

If your alert from Instagram or Facebook included an "Appeal" button, you can click this link to get your video re-added to the non-monetized territories.

Why did this only start happening now?

Meta, the company that owns Facebook and Instagram, are making changes to their platform to improve monetization for music videos/posts. They're not able to do this for all countries though, unfortunately, so they've decided to block music videos/posts in any country where they're unable to monetize.

My video is not loading any more!

If you access Instagram or Facebook from the below list of countries, then the music video/post may not load. However, if you are NOT in one of the below listed countries, and your music is powered by Proton distro, please contact us for help: support@protonradio.com
