Q: Will pubby get me in trouble with Amazon? Is it compliant with Amazon's review policies?

Pubby devotes itself to aligning with Amazon's customer review policies. We strive to understand and adhere to them to the best of our ability. Below are key aspects of our practices. They underscore our commitment to compliance.

  1. Reviewers are not paid.

  2. Authors do not "trade" reviews.

  3. Reviews are genuine. We do not censor negative reviews.

  4. Reviewers choose from a diverse book selection. They can cancel reading assignments at any time.

  5. Authors and reviewers have no social or professional relationship.

  6. We promote reading. We regulate the number of books readers can sign up for weekly. And, we manage the pace at which they submit assignments after reading.

  7. You do not have a reviewer profile on Pubby where authors can see your review history.

  8. Authors cannot select or reject reviewers based on past reviews or rating patterns. Authors cannot request reviews from a certain reviewer.

  9. We track and address instances of misbehavior. We remove users for repeat incidents of:

    1. Using AI to write reviews

    2. Submitting false reviews (ex: referring to the wrong title)

    3. Plagiarism

    4. Hate speech

    5. Deleted reviews

We pride ourselves on transparency with our valued members. Please be aware of the below uncertainties.

  1. As we understand it, Amazon uses "algorithms" (automated computer programs). These algorithms flag suspicious behavior. A sudden inflow of reviews may trigger the algorithm. We encourage new users to take things slow.

  2. We suspend users for misbehavior, but we can only find and remove them after the misconduct. Be cautious of potential reviews from such users.

  3. Amazon's policies are subject to change. Pubby may not always immediately notice or adapt to these changes.

Q: I’ve read online that my Amazon reviewer profile should be private. Is that true? How do I adjust my profile settings?

Yes, we recommend limiting the visibility of your Amazon reviewer profile. While your individual reviews will still appear on product pages, they won’t be easily accessible from your public Amazon profile.

Making your profile private helps to:

  • protect your privacy by preventing others from easily accessing your full review history in one place

  • minimize the risk of harassment from sellers or other users

  • ensure better alignment with Amazon's review policies

  • keep your shopping activity more discreet

How to Adjust Your Amazon Profile Settings:

  1. Log in to your Amazon account.

  2. Click Edit Profile.

  3. Find the option Show reviews to the public and turn it off (de-select it).

  4. Click Save changes to apply the changes.

Our understanding of Amazon is derived from online resources and anecdotal evidence, and we do not assert a complete understanding of Amazon's internal processes. We acknowledge and value Amazon's efforts to maintain the integrity of its review platform. The provided advice is in no way intended to aid authors in bypassing Amazon's policies.
