Controlling your smart home devices with your voice is made easy with Amazon Alexa. Any Amazon Alexa-enabled device (Echo, Echo Show, Echo Spot, etc.) and most third party devices with Alexa built-in can connect to your SmartRent ecosystem.
Connecting Amazon Alexa to SmartRent:
Before getting started, ensure both your hub and Alexa-enabled device are connected to the internet. Once both devices have an internet connection, follow these steps:
Download and install the Amazon Alexa app on your phone
Open the Amazon Alexa app
Tap the ☰ (More) button
Tap Skills & Games
Search for SmartRent by tapping the magnifying glass icon at the top of the screen
Tap SmartRent
Tap Enable to Use
Input your SmartRent credentials
Tap Authorize
Tap Close
Once authorized, your devices will appear in the Devices section of the Amazon Alexa app, and you can start controlling them using voice commands. Make sure you don't have multiple devices under the same name as this can cause a response similar to, "You have multiple devices that are named XXX....." In order to fix this, open the Amazon Alexa app, tap Devices , scroll through the list, and make sure each device has a unique name.
Adding New Devices to Alexa:
After the initial setup, all current devices will be automatically discovered by Alexa. However, any new devices added after the fact may need to be added to Alexa manually. To add devices manually to Alexa, follow these steps:
Open the Amazon Alexa app
Tap Devices
Tap + in the upper right-hand corner
Tap Add Device
Scroll down the list and tap Other
Tap Discover Devices
Alternatively, you can tell Alexa to discover your new devices with your voice by saying, “Alexa, discover my devices!”
