When your company issues equity documents (option grants, SAFEs, stock certificates, RSAs, or board resolutions) Pulley routes them through an e-signature workflow. As a designated signatory, your role is to sign on behalf of the company. This is distinct from the stakeholder's signature, which confirms their acceptance of the equity. Both signatures are required for a document to be fully executed.
You don't need to coordinate timing with the stakeholder. When a document is released for signature, you and the stakeholder are notified simultaneously, and either party can sign first.
New to the signatory role? See Understanding signatories for context on what signatories are and how the role works →
Before you begin
Two things must be true before you'll receive signature request notifications:
You've accepted your initial signatory invitation. This is a prerequisite for receiving any signature request notifications. If you haven't accepted yet, check your email for the original Pulley invitation
You're designated as the signatory for the relevant document type. Signatories are assigned by document type in Pulley. If you're not receiving requests for a specific document type, confirm your designation with your company admin. See Configure signatories
How you'll be notified
When a document is released for signature, you'll receive two simultaneous notifications:
An email notification sent automatically to the email address on your signatory record
An in-app task notification accessible via the clipboard icon in the top right corner of any Pulley page
You can complete your signature from either entry point.
Access your signature request
Option 1: From the email notification
Locate the signature request email in your inbox
Click the link in the email
You'll be directed to the document in Pulley
Option 2: From your task queue
Click the clipboard icon in the top right corner of any Pulley page
Locate the pending signature request in your task queue
Click the task line item to open the document
Review and sign the document
Before signing, review the document carefully. As the company signatory, your signature confirms the document is accurate and authorized.
Do not sign if the document details are incorrect. If you notice errors in the stakeholder name, grant details, terms, or any other field, stop and contact the admin who released the document. They can correct the draft and re-release it. Signing an incorrect document creates a legal record that may be difficult to correct after the fact.
Once you've confirmed the details are accurate:
Review the full document contents
Enter your name in the signature field
Check the box confirming you agree to sign electronically
Click Sign to complete the e-signature
The task clears from your queue automatically once signed
The other party's signature status is tracked separately. You don't need to wait for the stakeholder to sign first, and they don't need to wait for you.
Signing multiple documents at once
If you have multiple signature requests pending, look for the Sign All button in your task queue to batch-sign all pending documents rather than opening each one individually.
For full details on using Sign All, see Find and complete pending tasks →
After you sign
Once you complete your signature:
The task clears from your queue automatically
Pulley tracks the outstanding signature from the other party
Once both signatures are collected, Pulley automatically generates a fully executed PDF
The executed document is stored in Pulley and accessible from the grant or security record
The stakeholder receives their copy automatically
Troubleshooting
I'm not receiving signature request notifications
Work through these checks in order. Confirm you've accepted your initial invitation — this is the most common cause. Check spam and junk folders. If you have admin access, verify email notifications are enabled under Company → Email → Settings. If none of these resolve it, contact support.
I clicked the email link but the task is still showing as pending
Clicking the email link alone does not complete the signature. You must sign within the Pulley interface to clear the task. Return to the document and complete the signature steps above.
I don't see the signature request in my task queue
Confirm you're logged in with the account that received the notification email. If you have multiple Pulley accounts, verify you're in the correct one. Try refreshing the page. If the task still doesn't appear, contact support.
The document details look incorrect
Do not sign. Contact the admin who released the document; they can correct the draft and re-release it for signature.
I accidentally signed an incorrect document
Contact support immediately. Depending on timing, they may be able to void the signature. The admin may need to cancel and re-release a corrected version.
I need to change signatories while requests are in flight
Changes to assigned signatories can be made within Company settings. When the signatory is changed, the task will be removed from the previous signatory's task queue and will appear for the new signatory. A new email notification will not be sent in this process.
