Boolean can be a bit complex to understand. Even the most seasoned Boolean writer may end up staring at their screen perplexed at what they just wrote 10 minutes ago. Even when you don’t have trouble writing boolean, it can be taxing to list out the terms you want for your base boolean. Like it or not, Boolean query writing is a part of the process of querying in the social listening space, and we all have to do it.
Or do we?
Introducing the Boolean Generator. With our new Boolean Generator tool, you can now turn a simple input, be it a few words or a sentence, into a full Boolean that’s fully validated and works for all Pulsar data sources. Once generated, the boolean query can then be copied into the normal boolean editor, allowing you to further amend the boolean to your heart’s content. This is our first step towards full-fledged, hyper-detailed query creation from just your thoughts! (okay maybe not your thoughts, but a sentence or two)!
You can input up to 200 characters to generate a Boolean, specifying things like subjects, languages, and locations to focus on. The Boolean Generator will then return a copyable Boolean query that has been fully validated and will work with Pulsar’s query logic. The tool even tells you why this Boolean was generated!
The model we have built the generator around is trained on data from up to December 2023, and has support for English, German, French, Italian, Portuguese, Hindi, Spanish, and Thai languages, with a strong emphasis on English language content.
The generator offers you a number of generations, with the number refreshing daily for your entire team. If your team creates a lot of Booleans and you need a higher limit, you can reach out to your account manager to discuss a higher generator limit.
In some cases your query might just be simply too powerful for the generator. In these cases, the system will let you know that we were unable to generate a Boolean, and it won’t use any of your generation limit. Just vary your prompt and try again!
We won’t just leave you to sink, though. We’ve also been working hard to find out what sorts of inputs provide the best outputs, and we’ve taken this information to create a handy guide to getting the best out of the Boolean generator. You can check that out here
The Boolean generator is dynamic; so as time goes on, we’ll see improvements in generation, seeing more complex operators included, more expansive options for the query, and better generation from both prompt changes and LLM updates.
We hope the generator makes Boolean a bit easier and, dare I say it, fun! And as always, if you have any more questions, or just want to share your generations (especially the funny ones!), reach out to us via intercom, and check out our FAQs for some of our common questions
