This flexible asset will help you create a overview to gain visibility and control of print servers and related infrastructure in IT Glue. By "printing," we mean the total infrastructure that supports printing.

The operational maturity of printing solutions can vary considerably from the chaotic to the well-dialed. Consider creating multiple entries when there are a mixture of technologies involved, for example, one for devices deployed with a Group Policy Object (GPO) in Active Directory and one to summarize ad-hoc, IP connected devices. In more complex environments, you could have one entry in the Printing list view for each print server, each department, or each physical area of a site. Use the description field to help identify each one.

Preparation

  • Load the print server, printers, scanners, and plotters as configurations.

  • Make sure that you have admin access to domain controller and print servers.

Instructions

  1. Navigate to the organization you are onboarding.

  2. Go to the Configurations list view and filter it to display only the printers.

    • Type printer in the Filter columns or Search keywords bar.

  3. Log into the print server Print Management console with the AD Admin credentials.

  4. Compare the two systems to check that each printer is entered in IT Glue, including network and USB devices.

  5. From IT Glue, edit each printer to include the following:

  • Physical location

  • Web admin credentials as an Embedded Password

  • Interface information (If it is a USB printer, complete this with interface name as USB and the workstation that it is attached to in Notes.)

  • Click on Printing in the left sidebar and then on the + New button in the top-right corner.

  • In the Create Printing screen, complete each of these below fields:

    • Site - Enter a description name.

    • Print Server(s) - Search for and select one or more servers responsible for sharing printers at this site.

    • Printer(s) - Search for and select one or more printers.

    • Deployment - Select the deployment method from the drop-down list.

    • Open Print Management on each of the servers. Check Published to AD box if the majority of printers are published in the Global Address List (GAL).

    • Drivers Path - Enter the path to central installer files.

    • If the client has a third-party vendor to maintain the printers onsite, enter the vendor's contact information in the Support Information field.

    • Notes - Enter brief details of maintenance agreement, including account number.

  • Click Save.
