The PUSH Pro Application supports a Submaximal 1 Repetition Max (1RM) test for the following exercises:

  • Back Squat

  • Deadlift

  • Bench Press

How is the Submaximal 1RM Test Calculated?

To begin the user will provide an estimation of their 1RM, the PUSH Pro application will then provide them with 5 sets of 3 repetitions at 40%, 50%, 60%, 70%, and finally 80% of that estimation.

EXAMPLE - the user enters an estimated 1RM of 315lbs (143KG) for a back squat and receives the following 5 sets:

  • 3 repetitions @ 140lbs (64kg)

  • 3 repetitions @ 155lbs (71kg)

  • 3 repetitions @ 190lbs (85kg)

  • 3 repetitions @ 220lbs (100kg)

  • 3 repetitions @ 250lbs (114kg)

Once the user has completed all 5 sets, the PUSH Pro application utilizes the velocity data and performs a regression calculation to predict the user's 1RM.

How to Conduct a Submaximal 1RM Test

The process for conducting a Submaximal 1RM Test will be the same, regardless of which of the previously mentioned exercises the user chooses to perform.

To begin, select the menu icon in the top left-hand corner.

Next select 'Tests'.

Select the Sumaximal 1RM test the user would like to perform.

NOTE: If the user has never completed a 1RM test, they will be redirected to an instructional page to review the test parameters and instructional video.

When the user is ready to begin, select 'Start Test'.

The user will then be asked to either enter a predicted 1RM or use the last estimate if they have previously conducted the Submaximal 1RM Test.

If the user selects 'Enter Predicted 1RM' they will be redirected to an input screen. Once they have entered their predicted 1RM, select 'Confirm'.

The user will now be provided with the sets, reps, and the corresponding load they're required to perform to complete the test.

When the user is ready to perform the first set, select 'Start Session' and the corresponding set.

A 'Collecting' screen will appear and the light on the PUSH Band will turn green indicating data collection has begun.

Once the user has finished their set of 3 repetitions end data collection by pressing the power button on the PUSH Band or select 'End'.

The user will now be provided with a rest timer and the ability to review or edit the previously conducted set.

NOTE: Select the graph icon to review the velocity and power output for each repetition.

Once the load has been adjusted, and the user is ready to begin the next set, select 'Next Set'.

The user will be redirected to the 'Collecting' screen and the light on the PUSH Band will turn green indicating data collection has begun.

Once the user has completed all 5 sets, they will be prompted to finish the test and will be able to review all of the completed sets.

To calculate their 1RM, select 'Calculate 1RM', then select 'Finish' to save these results.
