Tip 1: The WAN Cable
Pyramid supports speeds of up to 900mbps - the only way to reach those heights is by connecting the provided ethernet cable between your broadband router (LAN) and Pi.
If you played around with settings, please ensure that Settings > Network Settings > Port (WAN/LAN) is set to WAN for this to work (this is the default)
Tip 2: Wireless or Powerline?
If you for some reason can't plug Pyramid Pi into your router, or maybe you want to place Pyramid in another room, then Pi won't reach it's full speed potential when it's paired wirelessly with your router.
If you want to place it in another room and still max out its top speed, then we'd suggest a Powerline adapter - a Powerline adapter is a device used to extend a wired internet connection through the electrical wiring in a home so you get most of the speed as being in the same room.
Tip 3: Wired to Router (& Wired to Another Device Too)
Another reason why you might not want to use the single port on the Pyramid Pi to connect to your router - is because you're using that precious port to deliver internet via cable to a device that lacks WiFi (such as a Magbox / set-top box)
A pro tip for that is a USB 3.0 Ethernet Adapter (like this one) which can be picked up normally for around £8/£9 and adds an extra ethernet port so you can have both WAN and LAN ports on the Pyramid Pi. Use the spare blue USB port on the Pi for best speeds.
FAQ: My line support speeds of [your speed here] - can it go faster with Pi?
Pyramid can sometimes go a bit faster than your home router but not faster than your line. The 900mbps advertised max speed for Pyramid is the max speed on ideal conditions on a high-speed line. Your speeds will depend on the quality of your home internet - if your line has a max speed of 100mbps, then you can hope to get most of that speed with Pyramid Pi but you can't exceed the speed of your line.
🏎️ Summary of Tips for Best Speeds:
Use the WAN Port (Connect Pyramid to your router LAN port via the included ethernet cable)
If you need to place Pyramid somewhere else in your home but want it to be just as fast, consider a Powerline Adapter
If using the single ethernet port for a wired connection (to something like a Magbox), you might want to add another ethernet port with a USB Ethernet Adapter
