These instructions guide you through redirecting a web camera and microphone to a Virtual Private Server (VPS). The process involves preparing your local machine, adjusting remote desktop settings, and configuring the VPS. This step-by-step guide covers everything from testing your devices locally to finalizing the server setup. If you need clarification on any step or additional help, feel free to ask.

For assistance with setting up your web camera and microphone on our VPS, we’re happy to help. To simplify the process, consider installing TeamViewer or AnyDesk. This allows us to remotely connect to your computer and handle the setup for you.

Local Machine Setup

  1. Ensure your web camera and microphone are properly connected.

  2. Open the Camera app to confirm both devices work correctly.

  3. Test your microphone by visiting https://mictests.com/ in your browser.

  4. Go to Camera Privacy Settings and enable the Desktop App Web Viewer option (if a "More" option appears, enable it too).

  5. In Microphone Privacy Settings, turn on the Desktop App Web Viewer.

  6. For specific apps, verify they have permission to access your camera and microphone.

Remote Desktop Configuration

  1. Open the Remote Desktop Connection app on your local computer.

  2. Click "Show Options" to access advanced settings.

  3. Go to the "Local Resources" tab.

  4. Under "Remote Audio," click "Settings" and select "Record from this computer" for the microphone, then return to the Local Resources tab.

  5. Click "More" under "Local devices and resources."

  6. Check the "Video capture device" box and click "OK" to confirm.

Server-Side Configuration

  1. On the VPS, open the Start menu and search for "Server Manager."

  2. In the Server Manager Dashboard, click "Manage" in the top-right corner.

  3. Select "Role-based or feature-based installation" as the Installation Type.

  4. Under "Server Select," the preselected server should appear—click "Next" to proceed.

  5. Under "Server Roles," choose "Remote Desktop Services."

  6. In "Role Services," check all options except "Remote Desktop Virtualization Host." When prompted by the Add Roles and Features Wizard, click "Add Features" to continue.

  7. Click "Next" to finish the wizard.

  8. Monitor the installation progress (a reboot may be required).

  9. Restart the VPS once the installation completes.

Testing the Web Camera

  1. On the VPS, open the Camera app to verify the web camera works as expected.
