The radar gun should be positioned behind the hitter or directly in front of the hitter and behind a net. To optimize the exit velocity reading, the hitter should position the radar/camera towards the field (left, center, or right) that they are hitting to.
If the ball flight is not inline with the direction the radar is pointed then something called the Cosine Effect comes into play for the radar gun and the reading will be reduced from actual.
Radar Guns will return the highest reading when the radar gun is pointed in-line with the ball flight path from the contact point with the barrel
