Adding a Component

How to add a component to your Plan, and start seeing your earnings in QuotaPath. Components can represent a quota, commission, a one-time spiff, a bonus, and more

Updated over 3 weeks ago

If you are adding a component to an existing Plan, navigate to the 'Plans' page in the left-hand navigation. Click the name of the plan you want to add the component to in order to open the plan details to view the plan structure, and then click ‘Edit Plan Components’.

If you are creating a new plan, go to the 'Plans' page in the left-hand navigation and click '+Add Plan' in the top right-hand corner.

Component Library

The Component Library, located on the left side of the comp plan builder, contains default components that represent all aspects of a compensation plan or different scenarios for earning variable compensation. View the templates in the Component Library for examples of common plan components.

Quota Components

You can drag and drop quota components into the Plan Structure section or click ‘+ Add Quota or Component’ in the Plan Structure.

To edit the template, click ‘Edit’ on the right-hand side of the component.

First, give the component a name and then provide a description of the component.

Next, determine the type of quota: decide whether it will be based on a currency value or a quantity.

You’ll then choose whether the quota is recurring or temporary. Recurring quotas are typically used for monthly, quarterly, or annual structures, while temporary quotas work well for SPIFs or time-bound bonuses, like a "Fast Start Bonus" for the first four months of the year.

For a recurring quota, you’ll also decide whether it remains the same or changes over time. For example, you could set quotas to change weekly, monthly, quarterly, or annually. If the quota is meant to stay consistent for the year, select the option to remain the same.

Finally, set a default quota amount. After adding members, you can assign individual quotas if the plan involves multiple team members with different quotas. When all changes are complete, click ‘Save’ to finalize the component.

Commission Components

Click '+ Add Quota or Component' in the Plan Structure section to add an earnings component there. Alternatively, you can drag and drop them into the section.

Click 'Edit' on the right-hand side of the component to edit the template.

Start by giving the component a name and then write a description for it.

Then, determine if this earnings component is associated with a particular quota. If it is linked to a quota, choose the appropriate quota; if not, mark it as "No Quota".

The next step is to determine the field names for the component. Decide whether to measure quota attainment by ARR, MRR, or another field. You can also set different field names for quotas and earnings. For example, you could base quotas on ARR and commissions on MRR.

If your component requires a new field, you can create one and specify whether it's a number or a currency value.

Next, configure the commission rates. If this is a multi-rate commission component, determine whether the attainment tiers will be based on attainment percentages or currency values.

Finally, you can choose whether rates stay the same or change over time. Individual rates can be personalized once assignees are added to the plan.

Once you are finished, click ‘Save’.

Bonus Components

You can add bonus components to the Plan Structure by dragging and dropping them or by selecting ‘+ Add Quota or Component’ directly within the Plan Structure.

To modify the template, click ‘Edit’ located on the right-hand side of the component.

Begin by giving the component a name and writing a description for it.

Next, decide whether the bonus component is tied to a specific quota. If it is, select the relevant quota; otherwise, designate it as "No Quota."

After that, define the field names for the component. Choose the field name for measuring quota attainment, such as Revenue, ARR, etc. You can also differentiate between field names for quotas and earnings, such as Revenue for quotas and Gross Margins for commissions.

If a new field is needed, you can create one and specify whether it represents a numeric value or currency.

Next, configure the bonus and decide whether the attainment tiers will be based on attainment percentages or currency values.

The last step is to choose whether the bonus value stays the same or changes over time. Individual bonus values can also be personalized for each assignee once they are added to the plan.

Click ‘Save’ once you are finished.
