A Retention & Upsell Bonus plan is commonly used by Account Managers, Account Supervisors, Client Managers, and Customer Success Managers.

Plan insights

Typically, compensation is on two major components: retention and upsells. Some AMs are given a bonus depending on their revenue retention percentage through either renewals or upsells.

A few examples

An Account Manager has a quarterly renewal quota of $240,000 ARR and earns a 7.5% commission of every renewal deal they close. They also have an upsell quota of $60,000 ARR and earn a 10% commission on every upsell deal they close.

An IT Relationship Manager has a hardware quota of $100,000 of revenue to existing customers per quarter and earns 6% of every deal they close. They also have an upsell quota of $10,000 and earn a 10% commission on every upsell deal they close.

Let's take a look at how to set this up in QuotaPath

Plan Name: Retention & Upsell Bonus

$240,000 in renewal revenue per quarter

$60,000 in upsell revenue per quarter
โ€‹Commission Rate:

0% - 100% quota attainment= 7.5%

100% - 150% quota attainment = 12.5%

150%+ quota attainment = 15%

10% on every upsell deal you close
