How to Build a Plan

This article walks you through how to build a plan from scratch in QuotaPath.

Create Your Plan

Once you have logged in to QuotaPath, head over to the Plans page and click Add Plan.

  1. Give your plan a name. In this example, the plan is for 2026 Account Executives.

  2. Add a plan description and upload a document (optional).

  3. Enter a plan start date for the upcoming year.

Build Your Plan Structure

Once that is done, the next step is to build out your plan structure. On the left-hand side inside the Component Library, you will find:

  • Default components

  • Templates, if you have already built plans within QuotaPath

  • A Workspace Components section, where you can bring in any quotas or components from other plans

In this example, we will build out some default components, starting with a quota.

Set Up a Quota

  1. Click Edit to give the quota a more descriptive name. In this example, we will call it ARR Quota and add a description. Make the quota as specific as possible.

  2. Decide whether the quota is based on a currency or a quantity. In this example, we are using ARR, so it is in USD.

  3. Select whether it is a recurring or temporary quota. In this example, it is a recurring quota.

  4. Decide whether it stays the same or changes over time. In this example, we will have it change over time — a quarterly quota starting Q1 2026.

  5. Enter an amount, or leave it as a default amount. If you have a common quota that people might have, update it here.

  6. Click Save.

Add a Commission Component

Once your quota is set up, you can have some earnings components roll up underneath that quota. You have options for commission components and bonus components. In this example, we will make a multi-rate commission component and have it roll up to the quota.

  1. Click Edit. This component is related to the ARR quota, so update the name to make it more specific.

  2. Keep the rates simple, for example 0 to 100% earns 6%, and over 100% earns 12%.

  3. Decide whether the accelerator is retroactive to previous tiers. If retroactive, turn that on so that if someone clears 100%, they get 12% on everything they closed prior to that. If not retroactive, turn it off. These are defaults, the same as with the quota — once you assign members to the plan, individual members can have individualized quotas.

  4. Select whether the rates stay the same or change. If there is potential for variable pay to change throughout the year or time period, set that here.

  5. Decide whether to use deals as the basis for components. There may be cases where you have a bonus for a deal set — for example, the first $25,000 in a deal earns one rate or bonus, and anything above that earns a different one. That uses each individual deal.

  6. Click Save.

Add a Bonus Component

You can have multiple components or quota components per plan. In this example, we will set up one other component: a single rate bonus that will not roll up to the ARR commission. This will be for new logos.

  1. Click Edit and update the name. There is no quota related to this. If you do not have a field for new logos yet, create a new one.

  2. Set a default bonus that people will get per new logo. In this example, it is a $500 bonus per new logo, recurring, and stays the same.

  3. Set the earnings period to monthly.

  4. Click Save.

Other Ways to Build a Plan

This is a simple example. There are many ways to create plans within QuotaPath. You can also try the AI-powered plan builder, where you can describe your plan or upload a plan document to get started.

That is how you build a plan.
