Types of Alerts
There are two types of emails that you will receive from Qwoted:
Request Roundup (Daily at 2 PM Local Time): A once-daily summary of the most relevant media requests to you that have been posted in the last 24 hours.
Topical Alerts (Real-Time Notifications): Instant email alerts for new media requests that match profiles, previous pitch topics, and the tags at the top of the profile.
You can turn either or both of these on or off from the Alerts page in your Settings.
Tailoring Your Topical Alerts
If you want to adjust how many emails you are getting or the topics for which you get alerted for, then navigate to the Tailor My Alerts page found in your settings.
On the top navigation, you will then select “Tailor my alerts”
Editing the Topics
Our alerts are generated automatically based things in your profile such as your bio, hashtags, past pitches, and other keywords you’ve included.
That said, you might want to fine-tune things from time to time. Maybe you cover nutrition topics but aren't a registered dietician, so you'd rather not get notified about those specific requests.
That's where the Hashtags section on the Tailor My Alerts page comes in.
Following Topics
If you've started to fill out your profile, there will be some tags here already. You can use the search bar to look for now topics, then click the bell button to follow.
Muting Topics
Muting a topic stops alerts for that topic, unless it's paired with another topic you follow. This is also the default state for any topic you haven't set to follow or block. You'll recognize it by the bell icon with a line through it.
Blocking Topics
Blocking a topic means you won't get notified about it, even if it's paired with a topic you do follow.
This is useful when there's a subject that consistently shows up in your alerts but isn't relevant to you. For example, if you follow "finance" but never want to see requests related to cryptocurrency, blocking "cryptocurrency" ensures those requests won't reach you, regardless of how they're tagged.
That said, use blocking with care. Reporters often bundle related experts together in a single request, so "dog groomers, pet experts, or veterinarians" might all appear in the same post. If you're a dog groomer who blocks "veterinarian," you could miss requests you'd actually want to respond to. In cases like that, muting the topic instead is a safer bet.
You can view and adjust the topics for all three of these categories using these tabs:
Adjusting the Amount of Emails You Receive
Are you receiving too many emails or missing out on relevant requests from Qwoted? You can adjust your notification frequency by dragging the top bar either left or right.
The notification frequency slider controls how many alert emails you receive per day. Slide it left to reduce volume, right to increase it. The minimum is 5 emails per day, and the maximum is unlimited.
If you're getting too many irrelevant matches, try sliding it down. Your alerts will become more targeted, sticking closer to your specific keywords and profile.
Understanding Volume
One thing to know: when you lower your frequency, the system may automatically mute high-volume tags on your behalf. This tends to happen with broader tags like "Health Care," which can generate enough alerts on their own to eat up your daily limit and crowd out other topics you care about.
Here's how auto-muting works depending on how the tag got there:
Tags automatically pulled from your profile (meaning tags that were there already) will be muted for you. Don't worry though, if a tag disappears, simply slide the frequency back up and it will reappear. Play around with the slider until your inbox feels just right.
Tags you manually chose to follow will show an "Exceed Notification Frequency" warning so you can decide what to do. In that case, you have two options: mute that broad tag and follow something more specific, or increase your frequency so you don't miss out.
