Our stance on AI-written pitches
Using AI to write your pitches is against Qwoted's Terms & Conditions. This isn't about being anti-technology. It's about protecting the integrity of the platform for everyone on it, especially the journalists who rely on Qwoted to connect with real, knowledgeable sources.
Most journalists can't use AI-generated content in their stories. When a pitch reads like it was written by a machine, it doesn't just get ignored, it can damage your credibility with the very people you're trying to build a relationship with.
Check your pitch before you send it
We recommend running your pitch through an AI content checker of your choice before submitting. This gives you the same kind of visibility a journalist would have, so you can revise if anything reads as AI generated before it ever reaches them.
There are a number of free and paid AI checkers available online. Running your pitch through one before you send it is a quick, easy way to catch anything that might raise a flag, whether you used AI or not.
Even light AI use can trigger detection
This one surprises a lot of people, so it's worth explaining clearly.
Even if you're only using AI for brainstorming, grammar, rewording, or light clean up, your content can still get flagged. Most AI tools don't just fix typos. They restructure sentences, adjust phrasing, and smooth out tone in ways that leave detectable patterns, even when the original ideas were entirely yours.
We know this can happen unintentionally, and the goal isn't to penalize people who are genuinely putting in effort. But those patterns still show up, and journalists see them.
Tips for keeping your pitches authentically yours
Write in your own voice. Specific, personal, conversational pitches consistently perform better, and they're far less likely to get flagged.
Stick to basic spellcheck. Even light AI editing tools can still trigger a flag.
Add real detail. The more specific and personal your pitch is, the harder it is to mistake for something generated.
If you're not using AI but it's still detecting as so, you're welcome to add a brief note confirming the pitch is human authored.
How pitches get flagged
Journalists often run pitches through AI checkers, and can flag one they believe was AI generated. If that happens, our internal team reviews it, and if the pitch shows a high likelihood of AI use, it can lead to a temporary account disablement. This disablement is just to give you a heads up and allow for correction (and most likely more success moving forward!).
Because of this, it's worth checking your own pitch before you hit submit, especially if you used any AI tools at any point in your process.
What happens if a pitch is flagged
Beyond potentially missing the opportunity, repeated flags can have real consequences. Continued violations may result in permanent removal from the platform.
We don't want that outcome for anyone. The best way to avoid it is to lean into what makes you a great source: your expertise, your perspective, and your own voice.
