Instead of using our free migration service, you can easily migrate your WordPress website yourself. You can either copy your site's data manually via FTP and database management or use a plugin such as Migrate Guru.
To migrate using a plugin, simply install the plugin on the source site and initiate the migration directly from there. The process loads an identical copy of your site into a Box of your choice without making any changes or downtime on your live site.
How to complete the migration with Migrate Guru:
Step 1: Adjust the Box configuration
For your Box to run under the same conditions at Raidboxes as the source site on your old system, you first need to adjust three settings for your Box:
All these settings can be adjusted directly in the Box.
Important: You need to have a Box ready when you start preparing for the migration. This is the first and most important step in the migration. If you don't yet have a target Box ready, please create a new Demo Box now.
The WordPress version
To avoid problems with the WordPress version of the site after migration, choose the same WordPress version for the new Box that runs on your current live site.
When you create a new Box for the migration, you can choose from the three most recent WP versions:
If you want to upgrade to the latest WordPress version for your Box, you can select it directly in the Box settings under WordPress > WordPress version.
The PHP version
You can update the PHP version of your Box at any time in your Box settings in the submenu PHP > PHP version. Click on Update to confirm.
The database prefix
To find the DB prefix of your live site, you need access to the database management area of your live site. Your host is likely to use the program phpMyAdmin or Adminer. Access is typically built into your host's administration interface.
Here you can orient yourself on the standard WP tables, e.g. the wp_options table. The part before options is the prefix of your WP database.
In the example, the prefix is wp_. Now, you just need to enter the database prefix in your Box settings under WordPress > WP Table Prefix and click Change prefix to confirm.
Step 2: Install Migrate Guru
Log in to the WordPress dashboard of your current live site and download the plugin Migrate Guru under Install plugins.
Step 3: Start Migrate Guru
After activating Migrate Guru, enter the email address from your Raidboxes account and click on Migrate Site:
Next, select FTP as the migration process method so you can enter all the necessary data from the Box.
Step 4: Enter the Box details
Now you can enter all the details of the Box you would like to migrate your site to.
A) Enter the displayed domain of your Box in the Destination Site URL field. (This is usually the .myraidbox-subdomain of your site).
B) The FTP Type is always SFTP.
C) The Destination Server is always sftp.raidboxes.de (You don't need to enter the port).
D) Your FTP Username can be found on the right-hand side of your Box overview:
E) The FTP Password is always your Raidboxes Dashboard password.
F) The Directory Path is the directory path of your WP root folder. To identify this path, simply connect via an FTP client, e.g. FileZilla. When you go to the WordPress directory from your Box, the exact path is displayed in the navigation bar. Copy this path and paste it into the Directory Path field in Migrate Guru.
Step 5: initiate the migration
If neither the source site nor the Box itself is password protected, you can start the migration without entering any further information.
What do I do if my source site or Box is password protected?
Migrate Guru is also able to handle active password protection. You simply need to enter the password protection details in the form before the migration is started.
