How do I merge duplicate contacts without losing past interaction data?

Merge contacts without losing history. Raise More combines tags, notes & contact info. Ask values will need manual updates.

Updated this week

Merging contacts in Raise More will not delete or overwrite your interaction history. Raise More combines relevant data into a single profile to ensure nothing important is lost.

What happens during the merging process ?

  • Interaction History is merged: Notes, calls, and messages from both contacts are consolidated under the final profile.

  • Contact details are preserved: Email addresses, phone numbers, and addresses are merged. The interface clearly shows which values will be kept or replaced prior you choose to merge contacts.

You’ll see labels during the merge process:

🟩 “All values will be kept & combined” (for merge-safe fields)

🟨 “Your choice will overwrite other value” (for fields where only one can be saved)

Tips prior merging :

  • Double-check interaction logs from both contacts to ensure you're ready to consolidate.

  • Use the Review button under Merge Duplicates to compare fields side by side.

  • If needed, manually adjust any fields before confirming the merge.

Merges are permanent and cannot be reversed. If you’re unsure, mark the pair as Not Duplicates and review later.

Sample illustration

Let’s walk through a real example using two sample contacts. We’re merging:

Contact 1: Maryse Pretend

  • Had an interaction note, two email follow-ups, and was tagged as test2

  • One email had been removed prior to merging

Contact 2: Marie Berry

Had a different email address, identical phone number (triggering the duplicate flag), a pledge record, multiple phone call follow-ups, and was tagged as twilio

During Merging

The merge review screen clearly shows which values will be combined and which may be overwritten. Although Interaction History is not explicitly shown in this view, it follows the same logic as merge-safe fields: It will be preserved and combined.

Note: Values in Ask are not automatically combined during the merge process. If both contacts have different Ask values, users will need to manually review, sum them up, and update this field in the merged record as needed.

After Merging

The merged record now appears under Maryse Pretend (Contact 1)

  • Contact 2 (Marie Berry) will no longer appears in search

  • The resulting profile now includes :

    • Both email addresses (including the one from Contact 2)

    • Previously removed email (still tracked)

    • Tags from both contacts: test2 and twilio

    • Pledges that were previously under Contact 2

    • Voicemail and follow-up interactions from both profiles

  • All historical interactions are retained

  • Tags and contact details are merged

Raise More ensures that merging contacts won’t compromise your outreach history.
