Overview
Knowing your water and particularly your carrying capacity is crucial. For this reason, you may have your reservoir surveyed.
If you have, Ranchbot allows you to upload this survey map of your reservoir for more accurate volume readings as well as showing your reservoirs elevation in feet.
Before you start
Some things to know before you begin the process
The template you download is a specific file type called a comma separate value (CSV) file. When you fill out and re-save the template, ensure it saves as a CSV file. Learn more about CSV files here
Each field is in a specific unit of measure
The Elevation in feet.
Incremental Volume in cubic feet
Note: each row is the incremental or sliced volume of the reservoir
E.g. Row 1 has 36,000 cu. ft. at 106 ft and Row 2 is 24,000 cu. ft. at 107 ft. This means there is a total of 60,000 cu. ft. in the reservoir at 107 ft.
Surface Area in squared feet (this column is optional)
Importing your survey
The file import process has two parts: First, you'll prepare your spreadsheet with your reservoir's survey values and save it as a CSV file. Next, you'll upload your file in MyRanchbot.
Note: You can import a reservoir survey when setting up a new reservoir sensor or in the Settings > Survey. The below steps show you via the settings.
Part 1
In MyRanchbot, click on the reservoir you want to update
Click into the 'more options' three dots in the top right-hand corner and click Survey
Click "Download Template" and view it in Excel or Google Sheets (or any other spreadsheet program)
You will see three columns: Elevation, Incremental Volume and Surface Area
Note: Surface area is optional

5. Enter or paste the values provided by your surveyor in the relevant columns.
a. Note: Make sure you consider the unit of measure.

6. Save the file in CSV format. This option can usually be accessed from the File menu in your spreadsheet program, labelled as "Export as .CSV" or "Download as .CSV". Different spreadsheet programs will vary a little bit.
