Choosing Your 'Average Length of Stay' Setting

Updated today

📅 What is Average Length of Stay (ALoS)?

Think of the "Average Length of Stay" (ALoS) setting as a search filter. It tells Rankbreeze to check your rankings based on how long guests actually stay at your place.

The Goal: This keeps your rankings data realistic. You likely care more about rankings for a long weekend than rankings for a 6-month stay!

Example:

If your calendar is open for the next 30 days (like the calendar below) and your ALoS is set to 4 nights, we’ll break that availability into 4-night chunks and show your listing's rankings for those date ranges.

⚙️ How ALoS is Set

We offer two options for setting your ALoS:

  1. Auto-detected: We handle the math for you based on your listing minimum night requirement

  2. Manual: You choose the specific number of nights.

🤖 How do we Auto-detect your Average Length of Stay?

We look at your calendar for the next year to find your highest "minimum night requirement". We then set your ALoS to 2 nights above that.

This makes sure that no matter what time of year we are checking, the search is always long enough for a guest to actually book your place.

Why this matters: If we picked your lowest minimum stay (say, 2 nights) but you have a 5-night minimum during the summer, our searches would fail for those summer dates. Picking the highest one keeps your data consistent year-round!

🛠️ When will I want to choose the manual setting?

Use the manual setting if your guests have a specific habit that doesn't match your the listings default setting (auto-detected ALoS).

Example:

If your listing's Auto-detected ALoS is 4 nights, but you know your guests almost always stay for 7 nights. You should manually set your ALoS to 7 so your ranking data matches your actual business.

⚠️ Important: Auto-update Rule

If your ALoS is shorter than your listing’s minimum night requirement, your listing won't show up in search results. This can cause your ranking to look like a 320+/320 (unranked) even if nothing is wrong.

To prevent these "false alarms," our system will automatically nudge your ALoS up to match your requirements.

You can disable this by turning off Auto-updating in your listing’s settings if you prefer total control.

📘 Need Help Choosing the Right ALOS?

To choose the best Average Length of Stay (ALOS) for your listing:

  • Base it on your recent guest behavior: Check your Airbnb Length of stay insights to see how long guests typically stay.

  • Ensure it’s equal to or higher than your minimum night requirements for upcoming dates, so we use relevant searches.

Using this guideline will help ensure your rankings reflect how guests typically book your listing, giving you more meaningful insights.
