Summary:

1. What are Google Core Web Vitals

Google’s mission is to always offer their users the best information that they search for and to provide them with the best possible experience at the same time. That is why Google is always looking for ways to improve its SERP results with their latest core update for Google search.

This can, however, have a great impact on your rankings. If you are a website owner and you are not aware of Google updates and their implications, this can have a negative effect on your website’s visibility.

For this reason, we want to make sure you have all the information you need about Google’s algorithm updates. By doing so, you will know what to focus on when it comes to your website so that your website will survive the core update of Google.

The next new broad core update is due to roll out in March 2023, and it is about Page experience, which signals that Google will measure how the user interacts with web pages:

Google will release the new broad core update in March 2023 and will be “…the first Google core update of 2023 and the first in more than six months. The rollout may take up to 2 weeks to complete”. This means that the new Google core update will include the update of their ranking algorithm, which will enable us to know more in detail if our page is doing better/worse in the overall search results.

Google already considers hundreds of factors to determine rankings. With the inclusion of page experience, Google wants to guide people to the results that will give them the information they are looking for easily and enjoyably. Google’s page experience will include Core Web Vitals, and existing search signals such as mobile-friendliness, safe-browsing, HTTPS, and intrusive interstitial guidelines.

With the Core Web Vitals, Google will introduce new ranking factors that will measure the experience of users and make this data comparable. These factors will also be collected and analyzed on a URL-basis, and the factors are predominantly technical. The Core Web Vitals include:

  • Loading (content load speed);

  • Interactivity (when somebody does an action, how much time it takes to perform that action in the browser);

  • Visual stability (the content stays the same, it does not unexpectedly move).

2. Will you meet the Core Web Vitals?

The Core Web Vitals can be checked in Google Search Console. Google Search Console provides reports for Core Web Vitals to understand how your website is doing and which issues you might need to work on. This means the first step for you is to do an audit for your website with the help of the Google Search Console reports. Once issues have been identified, you can use tools like PageSpeed Insights, Lighthouse or AMP page experience guide to help you fix these issues.

Don’t forget: content is still king. This means that even though you have to pay attention to improve all the factors stated above in order to assure great user experience, you also have to make sure to still have great quality content in your site.
