The custom process is as follows:
Once we have a clear idea of what you are looking for, we use your pictures and ideas to request a quote from our workshop. (2-4 business days)
With your approval of the quote we ask our workshop for the Computer Aided Design renderings (CAD-aka 3D imagery). It's at that point you can see just what your jewelry will look like!
When you decide to proceed to fabrication, any final payments will be collected before work begins.
It's an exciting and simple process that people are thrilled to be a part of, including us! Custom pieces take about 3-4 weeks from CAD approval. Please note that, since the custom design process is unique to you are your vision and the timeline can vary greatly to bring your piece to life, the return period may be shortened. This, along with options to view the diamond prior to the work beginning, will be discussed during your consultation with one of our talented custom design specialists.

If you have all of the information needed (ring size, metal type, inspiration, diamond) we've got a form that can be filled out (more on this below). This will be the quickest way to get you in touch with one of our custom specialists - typical turnaround time is 24-48 hours (usually quicker).

What is the custom design process?
The custom design process typically involves several steps. It begins with a consultation where you discuss your design preferences, materials, and any specific details you have in mind. Then, the design team will create a concept or rendering based on your ideas. Once the design is approved, the team will proceed with creating the ring.
Is a custom designed piece more expensive than the stock items listed on the site?
Most of the time yes, due to all the work that goes into creating a one of a kind piece. Most custom designed pieces start with a minimum of $1500 and go up from there depending on the complexity of the design. This price does not include the center stone.
What do I need to share with you in order to get my custom design project started?
Information we need from you includes the ring size, metal type, center stone (either the exact stone or an idea of the shape and carat weight), budget and timeline. We also would love inspiration images (even hand drawings help).
Are custom designs returnable?
Yes! Custom designed pieces have the same 30 day return/exchange policy as any other jewelry purchased on our site however, due to some design's production time, the diamond may be final sale by the time the ring arrives to you. That's why we offer in person viewing prior to custom work beginning. All of this will be discussed during your initial consultation with one of our custom design specialists.
Can I replicate a design I found elsewhere?
We focus on crafting unique designs inspired by your preferences, rather than copying existing works. Share your inspiration with our design team, and they will guide you towards creating a distinctive, personalized ring.
Can I incorporate my own stones into my custom designed piece?
Unfortunately we cannot use any diamonds or gemstones that have not been purchased from Rare Carat due to insurance purposes.
Can I purchase just the setting with no center stone?
We do not sell empty jewelry settings at this time due to insurance purposes.
Can I get a custom designed wedding band for my engagement ring?
Yes! If the engagement ring was purchased from Rare Carat we can definitely help create a custom designed band to fit. If the engagement ring was not purchased from us, we are unable to create a custom fitted band and request that you reach out to where it was purchased from for assistance.
What is a CAD?
A jewelry CAD (Computer-Aided Design) design refers to the creation of digital models or blueprints for jewelry using specialized software. CAD software allows jewelry designers to create detailed, precise, and realistic representations of their jewelry designs before they are physically produced.
