CALIFORNIA STATE BILL

STANCE: OPPOSE

AUTHOR: Kalra

SUMMARY:

This California bill will prevent anyone who “has engaged in membership in a hate group, participation in hate group activities, or public expressions of hate…” from becoming police officers. “Hate group” and “Public expression of hate” are defined in this bill as that which practices "the denial of constitutional rights, the genocide of, or violence towards, any group of persons based upon race, ethnicity, nationality, religion, gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, or disability.” Based on this broad definition of hate, Christians can be disqualified from becoming police officers if they believe in the Biblical definition of gender and marriage.
