FORCED INSURANCE COVERAGE FOR INFERTILITY TREATMENT

CALIFORNIA SENATE BILL

STANCE: OPPOSE

AUTHOR(S)/SPONSOR(S): Senator Caroline Menjivar (D-20)

SUMMARY: Requires all insurance coverage plans beginning in 2024 to provide coverage for infertility treatments and re-defines infertility as the “inability to reproduce either as an individual or with their partner without medical intervention,” giving same-sex couples who cannot reproduce the status of “infertile”, disregarding the fact that biology does not permit same-sex couples to reproduce.

STATUS: Became a 2-year bill in the Assembly Appropriations Committee on Friday, September 1, will return in January 2024.
