Introduction

The Advanced Data Chart feature in Engage allows you to create dynamic Bar, Pie, Area and Line charts within your proposals using your own datasets uploaded via CSV files. This flexibility lets you present unique data tailored specifically to your proposal needs. To ensure seamless integration and functionality of your data within Engage, it is crucial to follow specific formatting rules.

Data Format and Rules

To prepare your dataset for upload to Engage, please adhere to the following formatting rules. Compliance with these rules ensures your data can be parsed correctly by Engage and displayed as intended in your charts.

Column Requirements:

  • Column A: "Filter"

    • Header in A1 must be labeled “Filter.”

    • This column serves as your series selection criteria (e.g. Suburb names).

    • Each value in this column must be unique. Duplicate entries will cause the file to be rejected.

  • Column B: "Header"

    • Header in B1 must be labeled “Header.”

    • Contains descriptions displayed as the chart header.

    • Headers must be 250 characters or less and do not need to be unique.

  • Column C: "Footer"

    • Header in C1 must be labeled “Footer.”

    • Contains descriptions displayed as the chart footer.

    • Footers must be 250 characters or less and do not need to be unique.

Data Columns (D onwards):

  • Definition of 'onwards'

    • The example shown here has 5 data points however, there is no restriction on how many datapoints you can incorporate. Your only consideration is to how it will display on the chart. For example, if you have 30 data points, it is likely the most chart styles will be condensed and hard to read.

  • Headers for Columns D onwards

    • Can be named as per your choice and used on the X-axis to describe your data.

    • Must be 250 characters or less.

  • Data in Columns D onwards

    • Must be numeric; special characters will result in file rejection.

    • Null values are accepted and treated as zero, but entering ‘0’ is recommended where applicable.

  • Data in Column D specifically

    • The header in column D is considered your primary data point. Optional colour differentiation can be used here to highlight important values.

    • On the example bar chart shown below, column D is highlighted in a red shade where as the additional data points are yellow. You can use this option to help tell 'your' story.

  • Mandatory Filters

    • Each row containing data must have a corresponding filter description in Column A; otherwise, it will be rejected during the upload process.

Best Practices for Data Upload

  • Ensure all data columns from D onwards contain only numeric values.

  • Regularly check for and remove duplicate values in the "Filter" column to avoid upload issues.

  • Use concise and clear descriptions in headers and footers to enhance the readability and effectiveness of your charts.
