Step 3 - Add/Import Contacts

Add and import contacts in RealScout manually, via CSV spreadsheet, or through CRM integrations like Follow Up Boss, Cloze, and BoldTrail. Learn how contacts sync, what happens after import, and how Awaiting Nurture vs. Nurtured status works.

Updated this week

Now that you've seen a brief overview of the RealScout system, the next thing you will want to do is add contacts!

There are three primary ways to do that:

1. Add contacts one-by-one manually by clicking the Add Contact/Alert button at the top of the page:

2. Import Contacts from a spreadsheet on the contact manager:

3. Connect an integration on the integrations page

What Happens After Contacts Are Added

Regardless of how you add them, new contacts land in one of two states:

Awaiting Nurture: The contact is in your database but is not receiving any alerts. You can assign an alert manually, apply a tag that triggers a Template, or enable Auto Nurture to handle it.

Nurtured: The contact has at least one active alert, has Auto Nurture enabled, or has been enriched. Nurtured contacts count toward your account's nurtured contact limit.

If a contact has a home address on file, they are eligible for Home Value Alerts. If they have search criteria (from a manual alert, a Template, or Auto Nurture), they receive Listing Alerts. Contacts without either will remain in Awaiting Nurture until you or your automations take action.

Frequently Asked Questions

What if I have contacts without an email address?

RealScout requires an email address to create a contact. Rows in your CSV without an email are skipped during import. Contacts without email cannot receive alerts, so they are not added to the system.

Can I import contacts from Google Contacts or another non-CRM source?

Yes. Export your contacts to a CSV from any platform, reformat the file to match RealScout's 12-column template, and upload it at Import Contacts. The source does not matter as long as the file is in the correct format.

What happens if a contact's email already exists in my RealScout account? Duplicates are skipped during CSV import. The existing contact record is not overwritten. If you need to update an existing contact's information, edit it directly on their contact profile.

Should I enable Auto Nurture during import?

If you know your contacts well enough to build individual alerts, leave Auto Nurture off and assign alerts manually. If you have a large list of contacts and want them receiving relevant content immediately without manual work, enable Auto Nurture. You can always disable Auto Nurture for individual contacts later and replace it with a targeted alert.

Can I import tags through the CSV?

Yes. The tags column in the CSV accepts comma-separated values. Tags applied during import function identically to tags added manually, including triggering Template-based automation. Make sure tag spelling matches exactly.

How long does a CSV import take?

Most imports complete within a few minutes. Very large files (thousands of contacts) may take longer. You can navigate away from the import page and check Contacts for results.
