Website Editing

Updated this week

Before you can edit the website, you'll need to make sure you have the Edit Website permission enabled on your user. You'll need to contact your association administrator to grant you this permission if you do not have it already. Once you have the permission, you'll see a Website menu item on Core's main menu.

Website Menu Item

WordPress Backend

Clicking on the Website button will take you to the WordPress Backend. WordPress is the most used content management system on the web and it's what you will be using to manage your pages, posts, menus, etc.

WordPress

Menu

Go to the WordPress Backend > Apearance > Menus

From here, you can create menus and select where they need to display. Core has 3 menu locations:

  • Primary: Displays to all branded pages for members and staff.

  • Marketing Only Visible: This displays on branded pages but only if the user is logged in and has the ability to edit the website. This allows you (if you are editing the site) to make changes to the menu before deploying it to everyone.

  • Simple frame / Embed: This is the menu that is displayed on the non-branded pages that are typically embedded in the website before Core.

Colors, Identity and Branding

Go to the WordPress Backend > Apearance > Customize

You can explore the settings to change the color scheme, social links, footers, widgets, and more.

Pages and Posts

From the WordPress Backend you can navigate to edit pages and posts. Pages are relatively static to your site. Like a homepage or an about us page where even though the content might change every once in a while the page will remain available. Posts refer to items like news posts and/or blog posts that you may be issuing periodically.

You can edit pages with the default WordPress editor, which is fast and easy to get started using. The top 2 pixels of the front end page allow you to access the WordPress menu. It has some quick buttons to edit the page you are currently looking at.

The Front End Editor

Core has a built-in Front End Editor called Elementor. It has a graphical interface for adding many widgets and visually editing the pages. See the video below for an overview on using Elementor to build and edit pages.

A page can be edited by the Front End Editor OR the default editor, but it is not a good practice to change back and forth between the two while editing a single page. This is because pages edited with the Front End Editor will lose their styling if reverted back to the default editor.

Footer

There are two different places where you can create and edit a footer. You can choose to use one or both of them.

  • Using Wordpress Widgets: The Left, Middle, and Right of the footer can be edited independently by going to the WordPress Backend > Appearance > Widgets

  • Using Elementor: The footer can be built using Elementor by going to WordPress Backend > Templates > All > Footer.
