How to Use Product Pricing Rules to Lock in a Price

Updated over 4 months ago

Want to run a sale or raise your prices for new customers without affecting your existing subscribers?

With Recurpay's Product Pricing Rule, you can! This feature gives you the control to "lock in" subscription prices, ensuring your existing customers continue to pay their original rate.

The Problem with Default Pricing

By default, if you update a product's price in Shopify, that new price automatically applies to all your existing subscribers.

For example:

  • A customer subscribes to your product at $50.

  • Later, you increase the price in Shopify to $80.

  • Without a rule, your loyal customer's next renewal will be charged the new $80 price, which can lead to some unhappy customers (and a lot of support tickets!).

The Product Pricing Rule is your secret weapon to prevent this.

How to Set Up a Product Pricing Rule

This feature is designed to be simple and intuitive. You'll be set up in a few minutes!

  1. Ready to get started? Head to your Recurpay dashboard.

  2. Navigate to Settings > Subscription Policies.

  3. Scroll down to the Product Price Rule section. This is where you'll define your conditions.

  1. Define your rules:

    • Subscriptions created between: Set a date range to protect a specific group of subscribers. For instance, if you ran a promotion from June 1, 2023, to June 1, 2024, you can lock in the price for everyone who subscribed during that period.

    • Product tagged with (optional): If the rule should only apply to certain products, add a tag that corresponds to the products in your Shopify store.

Once you have set these conditions, Recurpay will use the original price for all subscriptions that meet the criteria. It's a "set it and forget it" solution!

Why This Feature Is a Game-Changer

  • Protect Existing Subscribers: Show your appreciation for your loyal customers by honoring the price they signed up for.

  • Run Promotions with Confidence: Feel free to run flash sales or special promotions knowing you can keep the original price for your core customer base.

  • Maintain Stable Revenue: A predictable billing model reduces churn and builds customer trust.

By using Product Pricing Rules, you get the flexibility to grow your business with new pricing strategies while providing a consistent and fair experience for your most valued customers.
