How to Inactivate Students

This article describes how students can be inactivated in the EFgo dashboard

Written by Chris Harty

Summary

Group admins and system admins can mark students as inactive in a group using the Bulk Actions menu on the Children tab. Inactivating is a soft removal: the student record and assessment history are preserved, but the student is hidden from the group's roster unless the toggle "Show Inactive" is turned on.

Inactivating a student is often helpful when they leave a classroom mid-year, but you want to keep their data intact for historical reporting or potential reactivation later.

Inactivating a class of students is often done over the summer if those students are no longer in the organization nor using EFgo (e.g., they moved from PreK to Kindergarten).

Who can inactivate students

  • Group Admins (within their assigned group)

  • System Admins (across the organization)

Educators with roles of Examiner 1, 2, or 3 will not see the Bulk Action dropdown options for Activate/Inactivate.

How to inactivate students

1. Navigate to the group

Once logged into the EFgo platform, go to the group where the student or students are currently assigned.

2. Select the students you want to inactivate

3. Open the Bulk Action menu

Click the Select a Bulk Action dropdown in the upper left of the roster.

4. Choose "Inactivate in this group"

Under the Administration section, select Inactivate in this group, then click Apply.

The selected students will be removed from the active roster view.

5. (Optional) View inactive students

To see students you've inactivated, click the eye icon in the upper right of the roster.

How to reactivate a student

  1. Click the Show Inactive eye icon to display inactive students.

  2. Select the checkbox next to the student(s) you want to reactivate.

  3. From the Bulk Action dropdown, choose Activate in this group and click Apply.

What happens when a student is inactivated

  • The student is hidden from the active roster for that group. They reappear only when "Show Inactive" is toggled on.

  • Assessment history is retained. Past MEFS and EFgo data stays on the student record.

  • The student record is not deleted. They still exist at the organization level and can be reactivated, moved to another group, or unassigned.
