How to provide proof of income as a 1099 employee

Income verification options for 1099 contractors and freelancers: bank, payroll, and document upload.

If you're a 1099 contractor or freelancer, you have a few options for verifying your income. Here's how to pick the right one.

Bank verification (often the easiest)

If clients pay you through direct deposit, ACH, or a payment platform like Stripe, Venmo, Cash App, or PayPal, bank verification is usually the fastest. We pull your deposits and you confirm which ones are income.

Payroll verification

Some gig platforms, staffing agencies, and contractor management systems work with our payroll connection. If you're paid through a major payroll provider β€” even as a contractor β€” try the payroll option and search by your platform or staffing company.

Document upload

If you're paid by paper check, in cash, or your clients don't deposit electronically, document upload is the right path. Accepted documents include:

  • Most recent 1099 form(s)

  • Last year's tax return (Schedule C if applicable)

  • Profit and loss statement

  • Recent bank statements showing deposits from clients
