🧾 How to Set Up Security Deposits (Charge vs Hold)

Switch between a security deposit hold, and a security deposit charge depending on preference.

  1. πŸ“… Go to Rental Settings
Navigate to Calendars β†’ Calendar Settings β†’ Rentals.

  2. 🌐 Open Global Settings
Under Global Settings, go to Payment Settings and scroll down.

  3. πŸ’³ Find Security Deposit settings
    Locate Enable Security Deposits.

  4. βš–οΈ Choose your deposit method
    You have two options:

    • Charge up front β†’ Customer is charged and later refunded manually

    • Card hold on file β†’ Funds are held as a security deposit hold

  5. πŸ” Understand how each option works

    • Charge up front: You refund the customer after return (merchant fees are not recovered)

    • Card hold: You can charge against the held amount after return if needed

    • Holds are typically released automatically within 2–3 business days after return

  6. 🧠 Key difference to know

    • Upfront charge = slower refund process for customer + merchant fees still apply

    • Card hold = faster release and more seamless experience for both sides

  7. πŸ’Ύ Save your changes
    Click Save Changes when finished.

πŸ’‘ Pro Tip
Using a card hold instead of charging upfront is usually smoother for customers and reduces refund friction, while still protecting you if damages or fees need to be collected after the rental.
