Transfer your Codeboxes to RentEngine

Overview

Before you can manage Codebox devices inside RentEngine, you must transfer them from your current provider to your new Codebox account. Initiating the transfer early helps avoid onboarding delays.


Start your transfer request

  1. Visit codeboxinc.com and create a Codebox account.

  2. Start a transfer request using the button on the Codebox site (below)

  3. In the transfer form, enter:

    • Transfer date: The date you scheduled for onboarding

    • Client Service Provider: Your current showing provider (e.g., Tenant Turner, ShowMojo, AppFolio)

    • New Service Provider: The email you used to create the Codebox account (do not put 'RentEngine' here)

    • Serial numbers: Add all Codebox serial numbers you want to transfer

  4. Reply to your onboarding email from RentEngine with the Codebox account email and password so we can authenticate the API connection.

Make sure all fields are complete before submitting.

Note: the transfer portal does not show a confirmation, but you can assume the transfer has been submitted if you don't see any errors


Add the lockbox in RentEngine

In the Lockboxes tab of RentEngine, add the lockbox so you can link it with vacant properties and generate codes

  • Click "Add Lockbox" at the top right

  • Enter the serial numbers, choose Codebox as the lockbox type, select your account, and add any notes you'd like to include

  • Press "Create Lockboxes"

Note: the RentEngine onboarding team will complete this step for you during onboarding


Verify transfer in RentEngine

If the device has transferred correctly, you will be able to generate a code for it in RentEngine from the Lockboxes tab


After transfer

Once all lockboxes are transferred:

  • You can connect that lockbox to a vacant property

  • RentEngine can automatically generate access codes for scheduled showings

  • You can manually generate codes from the lockboxes tab

Note: in order to generate codes, the lockbox must be in Active status in your Codebox account


Need help?

If a lockbox doesn’t transfer or generate a code in RentEngine:

  • Ensure the serial number in RentEngine matches the physical device

  • Check that the lockbox is in Active status in your Codebox account
