Do all tenants in a co-tenancy need to complete a Rentmigo application?

Learn how co-tenancy applications work at Rentmigo, including who needs to apply, how rent shares should be entered, and how individual co-tenant invite links should be used.

Written by Joe Wigoder

Yes. In a co-tenancy, every tenant named on the tenancy agreement must complete their own separate Rentmigo application.

This applies whether:

  • You received an individual invite link from your landlord or agent

  • You signed up directly through the Rentmigo website yourself

All tenants must complete their own application in their own name.

If you receive an invite link, please do not forward it to another co-tenant or complete somebody else’s application on their behalf, as this can cause delays and application issues.

If tenants are signing up themselves without invite links, everybody must make sure they enter the exact same property address and unit details so the co-tenancy can be correctly linked together on our side.

What rent amount should I enter?

Each tenant should enter their own individual share of the rent, not the total property rent.

For example:

  • Total property rent: £2,400 per month

  • Two tenants splitting equally: each tenant enters £1,200

  • Different rent splits: each tenant enters only their agreed share

This helps ensure the tenancy is assessed correctly.

What if one tenant has a 0% rent share?

If a tenant is named on the tenancy agreement but is not contributing towards the rent directly, they must still complete a Rentmigo application for administrative purposes.

They should still:

  • Complete the application in their own name

  • Enter a £0 / 0% rent share where applicable

  • Complete the standard identity and basic information steps

For zero rent share tenants, we typically only carry out standard administrative and credit checks.

Does somebody moving into the property need to apply if they are not named on the tenancy agreement?

No. If somebody is living at the property but is not named on the tenancy agreement, they do not need to complete a Rentmigo application. Only tenants formally listed on the tenancy agreement are required to go through the Rentmigo process.
