How to Add a Membership Enrollment Fee

Charge a one-time fee when a client first joins a membership.

Overview

You can add a one-time enrollment fee to a membership in the Admin Panel. It's collected once when a client first joins — separate from the recurring membership fee they pay each billing cycle. After enrollment, only the recurring fee applies.

📌 Fee vs. bonus — An enrollment fee is a one-time charge at sign-up. A sign-up bonus is a one-time reward (like a free treatment). They're independent — use one, both, or neither on the same membership.

Why It Matters

  • Collect a one-time charge at sign-up without raising your recurring price.

  • Offset onboarding or setup costs on high-touch tiers.

Step-by-Step Instructions

Add or edit an enrollment fee (Admin Panel)

  1. Go to Catalog → Services → Memberships.

  2. Create a draft or open an existing membership.

  3. Under Billing, find Enrollment fee and enter the one-time amount.

  4. Publish when ready.

You can change the enrollment fee on a published membership, not just a draft — edit and publish again.

What the client sees at checkout

Before paying, they see the Enrollment fee — one-time charge due at sign-up (if configured).

Best Practices and Pro Tips

  • Keep the fee modest relative to your recurring price — a small one-time fee adds perceived value without hurting conversion.

  • Don't confuse fee with bonus: the fee is revenue, the bonus is an incentive.

  • Match the fee to the tier — higher tiers justify a higher fee, especially paired with a strong sign-up bonus.

  • Test conversion after adding a fee. If enrollments drop, lower it or add a bonus to offset.

FAQs

Is the enrollment fee the same as a sign-up bonus?
No. The fee is a charge; the bonus is a reward. See Add a sign-up bonus to a membership (Admin Panel).

Is it charged every billing cycle?
No — once, at enrollment. Only the recurring fee repeats.

Can I add a fee to an already-published membership?
Yes. Edit the membership and publish again.
