Restor has released a new feature that allows you to add your own data for fourteen important metrics. This helps bring global data closer to your reality, giving a more holistic view of your restoration efforts.
✅ What You Can Now Track:
Input fields for what was accomplished vs. target.
TREES_PLANTED: How many trees you planted.
TOTAL_TREES: Total number of trees currently on your site.
TREE_SPECIES_OBSERVED: Number of different tree species observed on the site.
TREE_SPECIES_PLANTED: Number of different tree species you’ve planted.
NATIVE_TREE_SPECIES_PLANTED: Number of native tree species you’ve planted.
INVASIVE_TREES_REMOVED: Number of invasive trees you’ve removed.
CARBON_SEQUESTERED: Amount of CO2 (in tonnes) captured and stored from the atmosphere, either naturally or through human efforts.
SEEDLING_INVESTMENT: Amount of money spent on purchasing seedlings.
AREA_RESTORED: Shows the area newly restored per year.
AREA_PROTECTED: Shows the area newly protected per year.
AREA_IMPROVED: Shows the area newly improved per year, for example by introducing sustainable management practices.
COMMUNITY_MEMBERS_TRAINED: The number of people from local communities who received training as part of your restoration or conservation work during the reporting period. This can include training in restoration techniques, land management, monitoring, or any other skills directly related to your project activities.
COMMUNITY_BENEFICIARIES_IMPACTED: The total number of people from local communities who have benefited from your project: whether through employment, improved access to natural resources, ecosystem services, or other positive outcomes linked to your restoration work.
These metrics help validate and complement global scientific datasets already present on Restor with your on-the-ground information.
Step 1: Download your site list
Log into your Restor account.
Go to My Restor in the main menu.
Click My Self-Reported Data.
Click Start new import.
Open the Download data dropdown and choose All sites.
Step 2: Prepare your CSV
Open the CSV you received.
Identify the sites you want to report data for.
Duplicate rows so you have one row for every site × year × metric combination.
Example:
Fill out the required columns for each row:
YEAR → e.g.
2023METRIC → e.g.
TREES_PLANTEDVALUE → actual number, e.g.
2000TARGET → your goal, e.g.
3000SOURCE (optional) → a URL or note, e.g.
https://example.org/report-2023
⚠️ Keep the
site_idcolumn intact for each row.Save the file as a CSV (UTF-8 if possible). Do not change the header row.
For easier management, you may prefer to upload one CSV per metric instead of combining everything into a single file.
Example row:
site_id,YEAR,METRIC,VALUE,TARGET,SOURCE abc-123,2023,TREES_PLANTED,2000,3000,https://example.org/report-2023
Step 3: Upload your CSV
Go back to My Self-Reported Data in Restor.
Click Add Files and select your prepared CSV.
Click Upload Data.
Once processed:
Each site will show a new Self-Reported tab with your data.
Your Insights dashboard will display graphs under the Land Cover section.
Hover over graph columns to see actual vs. target values.
Step 4: Verify and maintain your data
🛠 Errors → If your CSV has issues, they will appear in the Self-Reported Data tab. Fix them and re-upload.
✏️ Edits → To make changes, update your CSV and upload it again. The system will replace your previous values.
🗑️ Deleting data → Currently not possible in the interface. Please contact Restor support if you need data removed.
Step 5: View Your Data
Once uploaded successfully:
Each site with data will display a new "Self-Reported" tab.
You’ll see your input visualized through interactive graphs.
The Insights tab will show aggregated data across your sites.
Hover over the graph columns to see actual vs. target values.
✅ Checklist before uploading
Downloaded All sites CSV or the official template.
One row for each site × year × metric.
Columns
YEAR,METRIC,VALUE,TARGET, andsite_idfilled correctly.File saved as CSV (UTF-8).
Uploaded via Add Files → Upload Data.
⚠️ Important Notes
🛠 If your CSV has errors, they’ll show in the Self-Reported Data tab. Fix and re-upload.
🗑️Currently, data cannot be deleted through the platform. To delete, please contact Restor support.
✏️If you need to make any edits, resubmit the CSV with the updated values.
