What's Happening?

In Q4 2023, Google and Yahoo announced they both are enforcing best practices for bulk senders to cut down on the amount of spam emails their users receive every day starting on February 1, 2024.

ReturnLogic has already taken the necessary steps to ensure we are meeting these standards, and thus will not be automatically tagged as spam. Merchants who are not taking advantage of our custom email domains will not need to make any changes or take any additional steps to ensure this compliance.

For those merchants who are taking advantage of our custom email domain feature, you will need to make a few changes to your DNS records to ensure the emails sent from ReturnLogic on your behalf are not automatically marked as spam.

Not technical yourself? We highly recommend having a technical resource make these changes to your DNS Records to ensure correct implementation and continued delivery of return-related notifications.

Instructions to update your DNS Records

To ensure your custom email domain is compliant with these new standards, you will need to add 3 new records.

It is important you do not remove existing TXT records for SPF and DKIM.

  1. Log into your DNS provider's control panel or administration panel.

  2. Locate the section for managing DNS records.

  3. Create 3 new records for DMARC

    1. Create a new record in your DNS settings.

      • Select CNAME as the record type.

      • Save the CNAME record with a name of mte1._domainkey.yourdomain.com and a value of dkim1.mandrillapp.com

    2. Create a second new record in your DNS settings.

      • Select CNAME as the record type.

      • Save the CNAME record with a name of mte2._domainkey.yourdomain.com and a value of dkim2.mandrillapp.com

    3. Create a third new record in your DNS settings.

      • Select TXT as the record type.

      • Save the TXT record with a name of _dmarc.yourdomain.com and a value of v=DMARC1; p=none

      • You may already have this record if you are sending emails through another service

  4. Replace yourdomain.com with the domain you're setting up. Some domain hosts automatically add yourdomain.com after the initial value.

Using BIMI as your DNS Provider?

Read below for special setup instructions.

BIMI does not support putting "none" in the p tag. See the below instructions on setting the p tag to something other than none.

Optional Reporting with a Rua Record

Google recommends, as part of this enforcement of anti-spam standards, that email senders also set up a reoccurring report to ensure your customers are receiving the emails they should be. We want to emphasize setting up this report is optional and is not included in the standards which Google and Yahoo are enforcing.

Directions and Additional Information:

  1. Change the value of the TXT record from:

v=DMARC1; p=none to v=DMARC1; p=none;rua=mailto:email1@yourdomain.com;
