How to Create an Eligibility Check

Overview
Eligibility checks allow submitters to determine if they qualify for an event (such as a scholarship, grant, or award) before completing the full submission form. This helps ensure that ineligible applicants do not waste time filling out forms they cannot submit—and it saves admins time by preventing the need to review ineligible applications.

Eligibility checks function as the first page of the submission form. Submitters who do not meet the eligibility criteria will not be able to proceed beyond this page and will instead be shown an “Ineligible” message.

How to Set Up an Eligibility Check

Follow these steps to add an eligibility check to your form:

Navigate to the Forms page

  • Go to the Forms page within your event setup.

  • Click Edit to enter the submission form builder.

Add a new page

  • Add a new page at the top of the form.

  • Name the page “Eligibility Check.”

Add eligibility questions

  • Include all eligibility-related questions on this page.

    • All Eligibility Questions Must Be Mulitpple Choice Questions (dropdown, radio buttons, checkboxes)

  • Each question should have response options that clearly determine eligibility (for example, “I am over 18 years old” → Yes/No).

  • The responses should make it clear whether the submitter is eligible or not.

Create an “Ineligible” page

  • Add another new page directly below the “Eligibility Check” page.

  • Name this page “Ineligible.”

Add ineligible message text

  • Include a Prompt Text (HTML) message such as:

“Thank you for your interest in [Event Name]! Unfortunately, you are not eligible for this year’s event. We appreciate your time and encourage you to apply again when eligible.”

Add and edit a "Save and Logout" button

  • Add a Save and Logout button to this page.

  • Edit the button label to display something like “Exit the Form.”

  • Be sure to Check "Do SaveExit," instead of "Do Submit."

Set page visibility conditions

  • Open the Page Options for the “Ineligible” page.

  • Go to the Visibility tab.

  • Click Add a Condition.

  • Choose Condition Type: Answer to Choice Question.

  • Select one of the eligibility questions from the “Eligibility Check” page.

  • Select the response option that indicates the submitter is ineligible.

  • Repeat this step for all eligibility questions that could deem a submitter ineligible.

  • Click Save to apply all visibility conditions.

Optional: Request “Hide-Next” enablement

  • Contact a Reviewr team member to enable the Hide-Next feature.

  • This removes the “Next” button from the Ineligible page, ensuring submitters clearly understand that the form process has ended and reducing confusion when exiting.

How It Works

Once set up:

  • Submitters who select ineligible responses will automatically be redirected to the “Ineligible” page and prompted to exit the form.

  • Submitters who meet the eligibility criteria will seamlessly continue through the rest of the submission form.

Tips

  • Keep eligibility questions simple and clear—avoid ambiguity in response options.

  • Test your form using test submissions to confirm that visibility conditions work as intended.

  • Consider including eligibility criteria on your event’s microsite or instructions page for added clarity before submitters begin their application.
