Understanding Error Messages

If you see an error message when trying to move forward or submit your form, it means something in your submission needs to be corrected before you can continue. Error messages appear at the top of the page, so if it looks like nothing is happening when you click Next or Submit, scroll to the top to check for any messages.

Common Causes of Error Messages

1. Missing required questions
You must answer all required questions before submitting. Upload fields do not have a red asterisk (*), but most are still required.

Tip: Move through the form slowly to ensure you don’t miss conditionally visible questions that only appear based on your previous answers.

2. Invalid response formats
Certain question types only accept specific formats. Examples include:

  • Number fields: Only accept numerical values (no punctuation, symbols, or letters).

  • URL fields: Only accept valid web addresses (e.g., https://www.example.com).

  • Email fields: Must include a valid email format (e.g., name@example.com).

  • Phone number fields: May only accept digits (e.g., 123-456-7890).

If you see an error, review the question’s instructions carefully and adjust your response to match the expected format.

3. Invalid file type uploads
Admins may set file type restrictions for upload questions. If you receive an error when uploading a file, confirm that your file type (e.g., PDF, DOCX, JPG, etc.) matches the accepted formats listed in the question.

What to Do When You See an Error

  1. Scroll to the top of the page to view the message.

  2. Review the listed questions and correct any issues.

  3. Save and resubmit once all required and correctly formatted responses are complete.
