Sales by Category Report

Organizing products into categories in the Products Inventory Section helps streamline product searches and access, both in the inventory section and during sales via the cashier screen. This organization also supports analyzing sales based on each category. Rewaa offers the Sales by Category Report, which allows you to identify the top-performing categories in terms of sales and profits. This report aids in making informed decisions about purchasing products from suppliers.

Accessing the Report

  • Navigate to: Reports > Sales > Sales by Category.

  • Click on the report to view detailed information.

  • The report displays all details. You can search by category name, or filter and sort the results.

Report Overview

The report consists of two sections:

  • The first section provides a summary of the report.

  • The second section displays all the details.

ℹ️ The data will be shown based on the time period or filtered search results you selected.

Report Details

You can view the following information:

Category

The name of the product category as defined in the Products Inventory Section.

Location

Name of the branch.

Sales

The sum of completed category sales {Tax Exclusive} while deducting the returns and discounts.

Cost Of Goods Sold

The total cost of products sold from this category, while deducting the total cost of products that got returned.

Gross Margin

Category sales {Tax Exclusive} discounted from the total cost of goods sold.

Sales (Tax Inclusive)

The sum of completed category sales {Tax Inclusive} while deducting the returns and discounts.

Sold Quantity

Number of products sold without deducting returns.

Example: If 10 items were sold and 3 returned, the quantity sold remains 10.

Returned Quantity

Number of products returned.

ℹ️ The table contains multiple columns and data. Use the scroll bar at the bottom of the table to view all columns.

Exporting the Report

  • To export the report details, click Export, then select xlsx. An Excel file will be downloaded to your device, and you can view it once the download is complete.

  • To export only the report summary, select Summary xlsx. An Excel file will be downloaded to your device, and you can view it once the download is complete.


FAQs

  1. What happens if I change a product's category after it was sold?
    If you move a product to a different category, its sales data will transfer to the new category in this report.
    Example: If "Cappuccino" was sold for 25 SAR under the "Cold Beverages" category and later moved to "Hot Beverages," the sales details will update under the "Hot Beverages" category.

  2. What if I remove a category from a product?
    If a category is removed from a product in the Products Inventory Section, its sales data will no longer be associated with the category in this report.

  3. Will sales data reflect if I assign a category after a product is sold?
    Yes, sales figures will update for the assigned category in this report, regardless of whether the product was categorized before or after being sold.

  4. How can I identify the best-selling category?
    To sort categories by sales, click the arrow in the Sales column:

    • Upward Arrow (^): Sorts categories from lowest to highest sales.

    • Downward Arrow (v): Sorts categories from highest to lowest sales.

  5. Can I restrict user access to this report?
    Yes, follow these steps:

    • Go to Settings > Users > ⚙️> Edit User.

  • Under User Permissions, navigate to Reports > Report List > Enable Read.

  • Navigate to Sales Reports.

  • Go to the Sales By Category Report, then enable the appropriate permissions for the user.

  • Click Save Custom User to apply the changes.
