If you use super money with a standard savings bank account, you will notice your cashback usually hovers between 1.5% and 3%. That is decent, but it is not the full 5% advertised on the billboards.

I wanted to know how to hit that 5% ceiling consistently. After digging into the app and running tests on my daily spends, I unlocked the secret: you have to link a RuPay credit card to your super money UPI profile.

Here is how the setup works, what my statement math looks like, and how you can get maximum cash back on every swipe.

Why RuPay Credit Cards Unlock the 5% Tier

Most people do not realize that banks and NPCI treat credit card UPI payments differently from regular savings account transfers:

  • Savings bank UPI: The merchant pays virtually zero processing fee. Because super money makes little on the backend, they pass on a smaller reward (around 1.5% to 3%).

  • RuPay credit card UPI: Merchants pay a small interchange fee on credit card scans above ₹2,000. Flipkart splits this margin with users, which allows them to fund the full 5% cashback rate.

Every time you pay with a linked RuPay card at a merchant, your money earns twice: you get credit card reward points from your bank, plus real rupees credited back into your savings account from super money.

Prove the Math: Normal Bank UPI vs. RuPay Credit Card

To see the real-world difference, I split my grocery, dining, and fuel purchases for the month between both payment methods.

Here are the exact numbers:

Step-by-Step: How to Link Your RuPay Card in super money

Setting this up took me less than two minutes:

  1. Open your super money dashboard: Tap your profile avatar at the top left corner of the home screen.

  2. Select RuPay credit card on UPI: You will see a dedicated option for linking credit cards alongside your standard bank accounts.

  3. Choose your issuing bank: Select the bank that issued your RuPay card (HDFC, ICICI, Punjab National Bank, Axis, or Tata Neu).

  4. Authenticate with card details: Enter the last 6 digits of your RuPay card and the expiry date. Enter the OTP sent to your phone to create your 4-digit or 6-digit UPI PIN.

  5. Set as default for merchant scans: When you scan a QR code at a grocery store or petrol pump, select your RuPay card on the payment sheet instead of your savings account.

  • Monthly account limit: Total cashback across all cards and accounts is capped between ₹200 and ₹500 per calendar month.

  • No peer-to-peer transfers: You cannot use credit card UPI to send money to personal phone numbers or friends. It only works on merchant QR codes.
